Getting accepted to CGS if denied from first choice?

Firstly, good luck to everyone who applied! I applied regular decision to SMG, and I’m starting to think I wont get in, but I clicked the option to be considered for CGS. So im wondering how often they accept students who were denied to their first choice to CGS.

I’m curious - what would make you think that you wouldn’t get into SMG? (I applied too, btw!)

well my gpa is on the low side(90) but ive taken all aps and honors classes and my standardized test scores are very high (2150 sat,33 act, 740 math 1 sat 2, 720 us sat 2) im not sure where i stand but i know smg is competitve and i think my low gpa would stop me from getting in

and if anyone knows of any cases where they accepted someone to cgs after they were denied from their first choice please share!

My daughter applied last year to CAS but was accepted to CGS. After much research and going to the accepted students day for CGS students, she decided to enroll. She is very happy there and feels that this is a better outcome for her. Now after she completes her two years at CGS she can continue at any college at BU, which is good if she decides to not attend CAS anymore. The only one you cannot continue in is CFA, unless you submit a portfolio or audition.

I would strongly recommend if you are accepted into CGS to go the accepted students day and ask a lot of questions. That is the only way to find out if it is right for you.

@treesinmyleaf I got in to SMG early decision with a similar GPA and way worse SAT. You’re good.

What’s a “way worse SAT”?

I’m a current CGS sophomore who was accepted to CGS after applying to CAS. While the exact statistics are always changing i believe just over 30% of accepted students in CGS applied to CGS directly, and 70%(ish) receive deferred acceptance to CGS (meaning they were referred to CGS if they didn’t ‘get into’ their first choice. The difference between getting into the school you applied to and CGS could be the difference of getting a A or an A- in one of your high school courses. The college is very competitive to get into. Personally going to CGS was one of the best decisions I made. I love it ere and never want to leave!
