I am going to be staying at Brittney hall this summer doing some research for NYU and a legal internship but i have NEVER been to NYC. As i wont be having a car there, is the subway the best way to get around, and should i look at some subway maps before i get there? Is getting around the city really as hard and confusing as all my friends are making it out to be? What about the NYU transportation, is it worthwhile to even use it? My final question, how far is the Coles sports center from brittney hall and what about the downtown area in terms of walking/subway distance. Please help me out any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Getting around NYC is not impossibly difficult. If anything, it's organized streets and accessibly convenient locations of the trains makes it pretty easy. The streets are numbered so the higher the number...the more north you are. Trains go uptown or downtown, they'll tell you, and the number/letter/color lines are all very easy to find on a map/ in the area. You should probably have a map with you when you're going around. It's not bad at all.

I've only been a few times but it seems that transportation is very easy. The subway system was not complicated and I found it very useful in trying to get where I wanted. The stops were convienient, at least for my destinations. I don't think you should really have problems. Have fun!

"" what 'fishie said. Where are you coming from?

haha i appreciate the 'fishie name you've dubbed me. it's funnnny.

i live in south pasadena, CA...ten minutes from downtown, los angeles.

^its pretty easy to get used to, well i think so at least...

I disagree... I still haven't gotten used to the NYC subway system... it's far more complicated than systems of other cities I have lived in!

But the naming of streets with their numbers (like 4th street or 6th Avenue) is really smart and allows for easy directions

but NYC isnt any other city, it is "the" city. hahaha.. but yeah it does take time to get used to everything.
