Just exactly how much easier is it to get into georgia tech as a girl?

My gpa and sat/act scores aren't exactly that high, but it's getting there. I guess I'm kind of depending on me being a girl to heighten the chances of being admitted to tech haha ^^;

A friend of my mother whose brother got into tech told me that for girls, no matter how smart or how dumb they are, getting accepted into georgia tech was a shoo in. is that true? i'm just really worried that i won't be able to get in with my current gpa ://

If you look at the most recent common data set (2012-2013), the admissions rate was 52% for men and 60% for women. So it’s slightly easier but no shoo-in.

It’s also possible that women are more self-selective in applying (can’t tell from the common data set because they don’t break SATs and grades by male/female), in which case there wouldn’t be an advantage.

Sounds like another of those assertions that might have been somewhat true a generation ago (when your mother’s friend’s brother would have been applying to colleges) ;)

I wouldn’t consider Georgia Tech a shoo-in for anyone whose GPA and test scores “aren’t exactly that high”, no matter what other factors come into play. Do you have strong extracurriculars or work experience to help shore up your application?

How easy would it be for a hispanic girl with a 30 act and plently of extracurriculars but no leadership role to get into GT?

Unless you are looking at the data, it’s hard to know. Typical women applicants to GT had substantially better HS GPAs than the guys did, so admitting them at a higher rate would make more sense, especially sense GT looks at all 3 parts of the SAT, which negates guys’ higher average math score.

Hm, for extracurriculars I volunteered at several blood drives and bone marrow drives, and club activities such as American Red Cross, HOSA, Key Club, etc etc, and I worked as a waitress for my father’s restaurant, but I’m currently a tutor for middle schoolers…but nothing that qualifies me as a leader :’(
