So I'm a senior in high school right now and am planning to go to community college next year. I plan to be there 2 years and wanted some help on how to get into UC Berkeley. I want to make sure I don't mess anything up and take the right classes. I want to go to Haas Business School. Any advice?

MAINTAIN A HIGH GPA.

Make ASSIST.org your best friend and complete as many prerequisites as possible.

Haas? Get an internship.

This may not be good advice for everyone, but I recommend right off the bat taking 4-5 courses from the first semester. It’s just a community college, I figured it really wouldn’t be much different from high school and it wasn’t. The notion of “easing yourself in” and taking 2-3 courses at the beginning seemed silly and a couple people I know are regretting it now.

But seriously, get a gameplan and stick to it. Be sure you really want to commit to Haas and don’t lose focus. As clich

Get A’s in everything
Finish all the major pre-reqs

We’ll be better able to answer once we’ve gotten our decisions on Friday, but some general advice you can pull from the Haas site:

[Application and Selection Calendar, Undergraduate Program, Berkeley-Haas](<a href=“Admission FAQ - Undergraduate Program - Berkeley Haas”>Admission FAQ - Undergraduate Program - Berkeley Haas)

As you can see, 50% grades/coursework, 35% essays, and 15% resume (extracurriculars(EC)/work experience(WE)/volunteering/awards).
a. 50% grades: Get all of the prereqs done quick. Missing even a single prereq can kill you. Also, average GPA for Haas transfers is generally above 3.8. Try as hard as possible not to get below this.
b. 35% essays: They ask you three questions -

i. What is your intended major? Discuss how your interest in the subject developed and describe any experience you have had in the field — such as volunteer work, internships and employment, participation in student organizations and activities — and what you have gained from your involvement.

ii. Tell us about a personal quality, talent, accomplishment, contribution or experience that is important to you. What about this quality or accomplishment makes you proud and how does it relate to the person you are?

iii. They have a Haas-specific prompt that they might change soon. This year and last year, they asked students to look at this link:

[Defining Principles, Strategic Plan - Haas School of Business, UC Berkeley](http://www.haas.berkeley.edu/strategicplan/culture/index.html)

and say which principle most applies to you and why.

If you have great ECs, WE, etc., these prompts aren’t too difficult to answer.

c. 15% resume: Your priority should be to get amazing work experience/internships. I know people who got into Haas with little/no work experience, but i’ve heard that this is the worst way since WE becomes crucial during recruiting season at Haas, i.e. people with no finance experience going into Haas rarely get bulge bracket banking internships/consulting/F100. This makes sense since a lot of people going to Haas straight from UCB undergrad (which you’re competing against) already have great experience. A friend of mine who went straight from UG worked at Merrill and BlackRock before starting at Haas. A friend I know this year who is applying is doing an internship at Morgan Stanley wealth management. A guy who transfered last year worked at Goldman IBD the summer before starting.

WE > EC/Volunteering > Awards

So ideally you’ll focus intensely on completing all of the prereqs while maintaining a great GPA and hopefully picking up some meaningful work experience (or as good ECs as you can).

So I’ve been on assist.org and so far this is where I’m at. I’m leaning torwards Marketing for my undergrad major. [ASSIST Report: FULLRTON 11-12 UCB Articulation Agreement by Major](<a href=“Welcome to ASSIST”>Welcome to ASSIST)

Does this seem right and are there any recommendations on these classes, like which are easier or better? Also, what subjects should I take in my first semester and this summer? Its going to be hard getting classes. Thanks for your help.

considering we have not been accepted ourselves, i will wait until friday night to post on here. haha. but yeah, get A’s in all your classes dude.

Bump…

Highest GPA you can get
1.5. The best essays you have ever written in your life.

Great work experience(Major related)

Great community service(quality over quantity, show passion) and extra curricular(passion and show you’re well rounded)

Have a few honors and awards ready to mention by application time

On the assist.org, you need to take every single classes that are on the right hand side of the list. For calculus, I believe you need to finish the course before you can advance higher. The classes you need to take are whatever you want. Also, finish your GE’s.

I took 3 years of spanish in high school. Do I need to take it again in community college? Other than that, I just complete the IGETC and use the Assist.org website and get all A’s.

Do a lot of crack. Get great grades. Write Personal Statement.

Do a little more crack.

Wait for decisions…

Quit crack.

So it’s been a while since anyone posted so… Bump.

Theres no more advice to be given. Read what the others have said.
