Is it even possible for me? I have a 2.65 UW and 1620 SAT score, My class rank is 386/886
I'm enrolled in all Honors and 1 IB Class. I've been in all honors since freshman year and was in TAG (Talented and Gifted program) from 4-8th grade.
I really can't afford any schools in Boston like Suffolk, Emmanuel or anything and I doubt I'd get accepted anyways, lol. I'm in debate club and senior exec. committee, and I want to major in Political Science.
Do I even have a chance at Umass Amherst? I really don't want to go to community college for 2 years and I understand sometimes you have to sacrifice because I messed up highschool... so really should I even try? On college board it says 1% of people that apply with 2.5-2.99 gpas.

If you’re in all honors/IB classes it sounds like you’re pretty smart, even though you don’t have a good GPA or SAT.
I think you should either a) apply for a very easy to get into university (that you can afford or get FA for, obviously), b) take a gap year and learn something about yourself/take a job/travel and volunteer or c) go to community college and transfer to a 4 year institution. I don’t think you’ll get into UMass Amherst.
Just my opinion, though.

@basketweaver Yeah, my gpa is horrible because of my homework habits, and I thought my SATs were okay, lol. But yeah, all honors and 1 IB, I don’t think I’ll get in either but my mom is trying to force me to apply, lol. I’m thinking of Umass Dartmouth for a semester or year then transfer…

anyone have any idea?

UMass Amherst: Reach

You can always try to go to a UMass branch campus first and then transfer to UMass Amherst…

I’m transferring to Umass Amherst for the fall of 2014. I currently attend SUNY Albany as a freshman and have a 3.67 GPA for my first semester. I will have finished 30 credits by the end of the year. I’m the founder and president of a club here, and I’m involved in other clubs as well. Can you please let me know what you think my chances are?

There is always a state college. You may have a chane at Framingham or Bridgewater State. Do well there then transfer.

Umass Amherst: Low reach. I think you have a decent shot but you still gotta improve

Your GPA is way below their standard but you do have course rigor so it isnt that bad. Still a reach though.

UMASS Amherst is getting harder to get into over the years. I would try the other state schools. Did you qualify for the John and Abigail Adams award? That’s always a little boost for getting into the Amherst Campus. I know kids at Westfield and UMASS Dartmouth and they are happy. Your SAT is fine for Amherst but you would need a higher gpa to offset.

@twinmom2014 yeah i got the award, and I also applied to umd, uml, framingham and fitchburg state but I really adore umass amherst
