I applied to colleges with a 3.93 uw gpa, I have 3 acceptances so far. I had straight A’s in 9th and 10th grade. For 11 and 12th grade (first semester), I had one B per semester and the rest were A’s.
Here’s my question, I’m pretty sure I can keep the straight A’s this semester, except honors calc, which was the only class I got a B in last semester. Of course I’ll do my best but I’m just thinking about the worst possibilities, would anything happen if I got a C or a C- this semester in honors calc?
Also, I took 6 classes last semester. 2 APs, 1 Honor, and 3 regular. 2 of my regular classes were semester-long classes and I indicated that on my common app and I’m currently still taking the other 4 classes, I didn’t choose new semester-long classes instead meaning I have 2 free periods. I never even had a free block throughout high school until now, I always had 6-10 classes per semester but I’m concerned that it would look bad?
Would any of these be a reason to get rescinded? Sorry if I sound really paranoid, it’s just my personality and I don’t want to risk anything after all my hard work.
Some colleges have specific guidelines but a general rule often quoted on CC is to avoid D’s, F’s, and felonies. If you end up with one C and the rest A’s and B’s you should be fine. Do everythign possible (see teacher after school, use online resources like Khan Academy, get a tutor if necessary) to keep that precalc grade in the C range.
It is not clear whether you changed your schedule from that which you previously reported as in-progress on your application. If you did, inform all of the colleges now. You do not want to surprise them with “missing” courses on your final high school transcript in June/July, because they may rescind your admission for that reason.
In terms of grades, avoid getting a D or F. If you get 4 A grades and 1 C grade for a 3.6 last semester GPA, that is a drop from your previous 3.93, but probably not that high a risk (if your last semester GPA falls a lot, say to 3.0 or lower, that could be substantially higher risk).
@ucbalumnus on the common app, in the current year courses section I selected the “full year” option for 4 of my classes, and I only selected “first semester” for the 2 classes I mentioned that I’m not taking right now. I didn’t drop any classes, I just got my final grade in January since those 2 were semester-long classes. I’m still taking the classes I put in there as “full year”, I just didn’t take any new classes that were offered only for the second semester, I hope this helps to clarify
@ucbalumnus it looks exactly like this on the common app:
First Semester
Calculus - (HON)
AP Psychology - (AP)
AP US Government - (AP)
Senior English - (REG)
Video Production - (REG)
Understanding Sociology - (REG)
Second Semester
Calculus - (HON)
AP Psychology - (AP)
AP US Government - (AP)
Senior English - (REG)
So would I still have to fix anything or talk to the colleges?
If your schedule matches the schedule you put on the common application you are fine. However, if you dropped or changed anything you need to notify every college you have been accepted to as well as every college you have an outstanding application at.
