Getting Rescinded!

now that I'm halfway through 2nd semester, a realistic grade appraisal would be : 5 As, 3 Bs, 1 C+ (maybe a B). So I guess I'm safe?

Yea man, you're straight.

good to know

might depend what the C is in

actually you'll be fine

you're taking lots of classes

Of course not. You'll be fine. If you were getting mostly C's with a stray D or F I'd be concerned, but you're fine.

my counselor told us not to worry unless it was an extreme drop

iloveschool, people are still -accepted- to the schools you mentioned with those types of grades, let alone not being rescinded by them. You are fine.

It says something like "We accepted you not based on your numbers, but on your words and actions" which pretty much means you are more than a GPA to them and they don't really care how much you drop so long as you dont fail everything.

That's a very narrow interpretation. What do you think his "actions" will tell them if he starts blowing off school as soon as he gets admitted? That he loves learning?

I'm not criticizing the OP, I just disagree with Venkat's statement.

I didn't mean to say that the OP could get by with straight Cs, but Chicago's acceptance letter doesn't mention grades at all. Of my other two acceptance letters, both said to keep my grades up or risk losing admission. Chicago's didn't flat out say it, so they probably understand if a student is going to go from straight As to a few Bs and maybe even a C. My friend got a D in regular level Pre Calculus first semester as a senior and UChicago didn't send him anything after he was admitted EA last year. I don't know a single school that would rescind an admitted student for one C senior year without warning. None probably exist. My statement was probably a tad narrow, but some people need to chill out about their grades. No one gets into a top 20 college based on a GPA, so a slight drop in GPA shouldn't affect the other factors that got a person admitted in the first place (essay, personality, intelligence, ECs).

On a side note, I wonder what happens to someone who gets a likely letter from a college after failing a few classes first semester...
