Getting to DC

I am extremely directionally impaired so I'm asking for slooooow, idiot level instructions on how to get from campus to DC by public transportation. Anyone?

The easiest, although most expensive, way is to take Amtrak. A couple of trains a day (afternoon and evening, I believe) leave for DC from the Newark station on the south end of campus. The station is on S. College Ave., and the ‘South Campus Route’ UD shuttle bus will drop you there.

You can find train times by plugging in the info here: Amtrak.com. There’s no ticket office in Newark, so you’ll need to get your tickets elsewhere - if these are for you, Penn Station would be the place. You can buy them online and then print them out at one of the Penn Station kiosks.

Washington, DC would be Union Station or did I misread the original post?

MTnest, zoosermom lives in NYC, which is why I suggested Penn Station.

zoosermom, Amtrak is really easy. DD did it last year - no problem. There is limited service from Newark to DC (and as previously mentioned, there’s no station or even ticket machine to scan your email confirmation to print your ticket). However, if your DD can get a ride to Wilmington Amtrak (about half-hour away), I’m sure there are many more Amtrak trains to DC every day. As a soph, my DD has many more friends with cars and has been able to get to Wllmington easily. DD has also take the train from the Newark station and has walked down there from Laird. It’s all do-able and very easy. You can PM me if you have any specific questions.

thank you very much! I have a very hard time reading maps and figuring out directions. LINYMOM, I may take you up on that. Thanks!
