girls & makeup

Do you wear make-up? Yep!

...everyday or frequently? or only for dates or going out? Frequently, used to be everyday but I think I've worn it about 5 times in the last 2 months.

...if you do wear it frequently, do you feel self-conscious or insecure when you're not wearing it? I used to, but my skin cleared up after I stopped wearing so much so it's not that bad now.

...Do you get more compliments and more attention when you are? I don't get compliments period. Well, except for one of my Mom's obnoxious friends who always hassles me on how I got my skin clear because she wants to tell her 16 y.o. daughter (Answer: Cetephil and time!)

How much makeup do you wear? Eyeliner and eyeshadow only? Something like this or more like this? (More natural looking as opposed to... full-face) I wear foundation (either Physicians Formula MineralWear loose or Maybelline Pure), bronzer (Clinique pressed in Sunkissed is the only one that looks good on me), eyeshadow base (L'Oreal HIP, not made anymore!), eyeshadow (either sparkly tan or some kind of bold color) and lipgloss. Sometimes I do wear mascara (Max Factor Lash perfection in Deep Blue, looks black with being overly harsh like black is on me), and blush in place of the bronzer (usually Milani Luminous, a dupe of the famous Nars shade that shall remain nameless!).

...Do you feel more self-confident about yourself? If everything came out well, yeah!

...add any other comments.
If anyone knows of a good foundation for a pale olive undertone, tell me!! I've gotten a bit of a tan this summer and my old colors aren't really working for me anymore. I mostly use drugstore stuff, but want to try more high-end stuff (esp. MAC!).

How much do you spend on makeup? Not much. I get a lot of my stuff on clearance. Gotta love seasonal LE collections!

Do you have an expensive handbag too? Nope! JC Penney and Target for me!

How many handbags do you have? A bunch. I buy cheap ones so I can replace them when they get dirty and stuff.

Are you swayed by consumer culture? Sometimes.

...is this just a woman thing? Nah, Most guys I know are very eager to throw money at the latest and greatest electronics.

Do you get your eyebrows waxed? Nope, I pluck mine.

Do you get tanned? (either lying outside in bikini or being baked in a tanning oven) Nope. I get one from doing stuff outside, but it's not intentional.

Manicures and pedicures? No! I hate nail polish!

Hair salons? ($100 hair coloring versus $7 box of Loreal @ Rite-Aid?) I get my hair cut at a salon ($15-17 depending on if they dry it or not), but I've never actually colored my hair. My natural color is nice!

How much do you spend on beauty products? Once again, not a lot. Most of this stuff has to come out of my pocket, and my job pays well but not that well!

Having to buy bras for 40 bucks a pop at VS doesn't help either... One word: Target!

Also, what do you think of corsets? I saw some really cute ones at Hot Topic (I assure you I am not an emo shopper!) Can be cute if worn right, or just trashy looking if done wrong.

Fake eyelashes? Nope, my natural ones are quite nice, but I do like some of the weird Shiseido and Shu ones.

Fake nails? Icky!

...fake hair? Nope, you can generally spot it from a mile away!

Other Questions:

How much do you spend on makeup?
IDK--not too much. I usually buy drugstore makeup, except for MAC foundation and if I ever have gift certificates to Sephora.

Do you have an expensive handbag too?
No. I wouldn't mind one. I don't really have a handbag though, haha. I have a Coach wristlet (originally $70, got it for $25 at the outlet), which fits my cell, ipod, $$, and lipgloss/chapstick. And then I have a $80 tote bag for school or if I ever need to carry a lot of stuff....like on vacation or something, where I need a camera, water, etc.

How many handbags do you have? i think 6. I only use one or 2 haha
Only the two above. I'm more a of a shoes girl :P

Are you swayed by consumer culture? ...is this just a woman thing?
Uh. kind of? I mean I look at the trends, but I'm not gonna live life by them. Like, ankle boots were big last fall, but I'm short and they completely cut off the leg, so they were totally unflattering on me so I didn't get any. And if I like something that isn't necessarily "in style" right now, I'll still wear it.

Do you get your eyebrows waxed?
No. Threaded.

Do you get tanned?
I'm kinda dark enough already. haha.

Manicures and pedicures?
Usually for occasions. Or sometimes if I just feel like doing something nice for myself.

Hair salons?
I get haircuts at SuperCuts. haha. but ~ once a year I like to get a more expensive haircut with a new style or something. I started getting highlights done last year. VERY natural looking (at least 10 people asked me if they were real), twice a year.

How much do you spend on beauty products?
idk. not too much.

Having to buy bras for 40 bucks a pop at VS doesn't help either.
yeah icky. but they had this huge sale recently, lol. +they're pretty good quality.

Also, what do you think of corsets?
uhhh. not exactly to my taste, lol.

Fake eyelashes?
I don't like 'em. Plus I already have pretty long lashes. I just need to curl them.

Fake nails?
icky. I saw this thing on dateline once and your nails become GROSS if you use them regularly. They start like decompsing lol.

fake hair?
nope.

How much do you spend on makeup?
The stuff I have now was a little under $50. I don't buy makeup often.

Do you have an expensive handbag too?
No I don't carry them. If I need a bag I use my messenger bag that I use for school.

How many handbags do you have?
0

Are you swayed by consumer culture? .
No.

Do you get your eyebrows waxed?
I get my eyebrows threaded. Faster, looks better, cheaper, and not as painful.

Do you get tanned? (either lying outside in bikini or being baked in a tanning oven).
No. I'm outside often and get naturally tan, but its not my purpose when I go outside.

Manicures and pedicures?
No. Not even for prom or the wedding I was in. I see it as a waste of my time and money.

Hair salons? ($100 hair coloring versus $7 box of Loreal @ Rite-Aid?)
My hair gets natural highlights from the sun. I've never dyed it. My hair cuts usually cost $30 - $40 because I have long hair. -_- I only go before a special occasion (before school starts is one) and maybe every 6 months. I haven't gotten my hair cut in a while.

How much do you spend on beauty products?
$50 for my makeup (again not often). Umm $15 for hair styling stuff every 4 -6. In the summer they go quicker because my hair and humidity don't get along very well. My shampoo is about $4 (shampoo & conditioner) and lasts around a month I think? About $15 - $20 for facial cleaning stuff every 4 months.

Having to buy bras for 40 bucks a pop at VS doesn't help either.
I buy my bras from Target. (;

Also, what do you think of corsets?
I don't like the look of them.

Fake eyelashes?
Nope.

Fake nails?
Nope.

fake hair?
Nope.

How much do you spend on makeup?
Very little. I buy relatively cheap mascara, blush, and eyeshadow... that's it.

Do you have an expensive handbag too?
Nope. I get my handbags as gifts, or at Marshalls or T.J. Maxx =)

How many handbags do you have?
About five...

Are you swayed by consumer culture?
Probably to some extent.

Do you get your eyebrows waxed?
No. Sometimes I whip out some tweezers... but I was born with some pretty good eyebrows... hee hee.

Do you get tanned? (either lying outside in bikini or being baked in a tanning oven).
Umm, I'm Irish. I'm so white that I GLOW in the sun. It's either SPF 30 or a giant sunburn for me =)

Manicures and pedicures?
Ehhh... no. I paint my nails myself. I use the fast-drying kind... it takes about two and a half minutes, and is incredibly cheap.

Hair salons? ($100 hair coloring versus $7 box of Loreal @ Rite-Aid?)
I don't color my hair. I really dislike the color (it's a mousey, boring brown), but I would feel wrong coloring it... I'm not sure why. I get my hair cut every 4-6 months, and cut my bangs myself.

How much do you spend on beauty products?
Well, I don't splurge on beauty products... I personally find that the more expensive make-up/hair products don't work any better than their cheaper counterparts.

Having to buy bras for 40 bucks a pop at VS doesn't help either.
I get bras from the Gap, but those aren't much cheaper.

Also, what do you think of corsets?
Umm... hate 'em. I'm not a fan of the Hot Topic faux-punk/emo/goth look. Eurrghh.

Fake eyelashes?
No!

Fake nails?
In 4th grade =)

fake hair?
No.

yeah... Gel nails make your nails really really weak. I got them for prom because my nails just don't grow to be very long and I think acrillics look discusting, and when I removed them it was like, "OMG my nails are realllllllllllly flimsy." You have to apply the strenghtening nail polish to them for about a month afterwards. I know girls who have gotten the gel nails immediately after removing a set of gels, and their nails are beyond gross. I'm not getting them again.... like ever... lol

I actually don't wear make up on a regular basis (besides lip gloss). Haha, I'm the only one?

But yeah, I do occassionally wear it for big events, and people don't even recognize me. Also, I get hit on a lot. Makes me think I should do it more often, but I'm too ****ing lazy.

what are threaded eyebrows?

A lot of my Indian friends get their eyebrows threaded. Its, in my and my friends' opinion, a much more accurate way of removing unwanted eyebrow hair. Its like tweezing individual hairs out, but all at one time. I think it produces much better results than waxing, just from looking at people who wax compared to those who thread. Its pretty cool. lol

yeah haha I'm Indian.
figures.
but I know people who aren't Indian who get it done too.

It's kinda wierd and i don't really know exactly how it works, but it's similar to tweezing. they use a thread to remove the hairs. idk. it just turns out good, haha. you get a nice shape.

^lol... A lot of my caucasian friends get it done too. Waxing is like, "Lets just blob on some sticky goo, rip it off, and hope for the best." Whereas threading is very precise and its like 99.99999999% guarenteed to look good. I've seen some HORRIBLE wax jobs. lol... Like the "half my eyebrow is now gone" kind of bad. lol

As a guy, I am infinitely more attracted to the girl that doesn't wear the makeup. There's just something less appealing and attractive about it-- perhaps the fact that I am more attracted to an actual person rather than some "painting" or artistic creation that a girl has concocted. If a girl wants to add a small amount of mascara, that's fine, but the kind of girl that cakes it on like Britney is NOT the kind of girl I want to spend more than five minutes with.

I want to spend time with a girl that is confident in herself and capable, day after day, of really taking my breath away with her natural beauty.

...everyday or frequently? or only for dates or going out?
Ok this is weird. I wear makeup even if I'm lounging around the house at home. Because if I don't wear makeup, I feel really really sluggish and unproductive, so even if I'm at home, I'll at least put on some mascara and tinted moisturizer. Um... at school and out shopping and whatever, I'll wear eyeshadow, eyeliner, mascara, tinted moisturizer, blush/bronzer, and lipgloss. (it sounds like a lot but really isn't because I don't line my eyes heavily)

...if you do wear it frequently, do you feel self-conscious or insecure when you're not wearing it?
I feel so much more confident wearing makeup. I'm much more flirt-ier and I feel like I exude much more sexuality when wearing it (esp. lipgloss)

...Do you get more compliments and more attention when you are?
I don't notice this. I think i get more attention depending on the way i dress

How much makeup do you wear? Eyeliner and eyeshadow only? Something like this or more like this? (More natural looking as opposed to... full-face)
the above

...Do you feel more self-confident about yourself?
...add any other comments.
I think only certain people look good in makeup. Some people, ie my best friend, look just absolutely awkward in makeup because it doesn't fit her personality. Moreover, it depends on your face structure/face shape/features that determine what kind of makeup looks good on you, if any.

I don't wear any makeup at school and only a bit of mascara and blush if i go out i dont know why but when i have worn makeup out on a normal day like going to the store or something i usually got less attention from guys compared to me just being natural .............

Do you wear make-up?
Not usually... (see below)

Everyday or frequently? or only for dates or going out?
On special occasions or sometimes when I have a really long time to get ready in the morning (which is rare considering how much I like sleep!)

Do you get more compliments and more attention when you are?
Not really. I mean, the last time I wore makeup to go out, I was also wearing a really awesome (backless) dress, so I think the "you look great" comments had more to do with that. I have a bf anyways, so he does notice when I wear it but his attitude change isn't enough to convince me to wear makeup more often.

How much makeup do you wear? Eyeliner and eyeshadow only?
Moisturizer (okay, not makeup, but it makes my bronzer stick better), bronzer (instead of blush), eyeliner (but only on half the eyes, and it's usually brown or grey/silver - I'm really not into the racoon look), eyeshadow (nothing really drag queen), mascara (after using the curler), and lipgloss
... the whole routine takes about 10 minutes, and this is my "going out" look too :)
Oh, and I never wear foundation. That stuff is gross.

How much do you spend on makeup?
Not much. My mom buys Clinique lotion, and a lot of my makeup comes from Bonus day... hah. I have some MAC also, and Rimmel eyeliner (because you don't need to sharpen it - so practical!).

Do you have an expensive handbag too?
More than one, actually. A few vintage ones that belonged to my great aunt (one is Gucci!!), one evening one I share with my mom (Chanel - it's really hers, but I've used it more than once), and some of my own (LV, LeSportsac, Longchamp, Coach).

How many handbags do you have?
A lot - both expensive and not. I think every girl has one or two items they can't get enough of... mine are coats and bags.

Are you swayed by consumer culture?
Depends what you mean by swayed... I'm not a trend whore, but I like to look good. I also think fashion is an art form in itself, if that makes sense. I love getting "era" pieces like a great 60's coat and pairing them with classic and modern styles.

...is this just a woman thing?
No, but I think it's more of a "woman" thing than a "man" thing. I also think that guys have less options in fashion, so that might have something to do with it.

Do you get your eyebrows waxed?
No, and I don't go tweezer-happy either - I just get the strays and enough to give them some shape. Having normal looking eyebrows is good.

Do you get tanned?
Well, yes and no. I never go "tanning" purposely, but I've spent many summers with family in Greece, where it gets pretty damn hot. Olive skin + 45 degree heat usually gives me a good tan, whether I want it or not (and I won't lie, I don't really mind that much). I do use sunscreen there though.

Manicures and pedicures?
I never get manicures (the exceptions were my graduation and my aunt's wedding) because I play violin, so the polish always chips after a day and a half anyways. I usually get pedicures when I'm on vacation with my mom, it's kind of a bonding thing.

Hair salons?
I got highlights once... in grade eight.
Since then - I get my hair cut in salons, but am sticking to my natural color, which I like.

How much do you spend on beauty products?
The most expensive beauty products I buy are all my skin-care products from the Body Shop... so $10-20 per product without using my frequent-shopper discount card. Heh.

VS Bras?
A good bra is worth the 40 bucks. Find one that fits correctly and buy three, with at least one nude-colored one to go under sheer or white tops. I'd rather have less nice bras than more crap ones.

Also, what do you think of corsets?
Corsets... maybe if I was going to be a pirate wench for halloween? I guess they could look good on some people, but they're not my style at all.

Fake eyelashes? Fake nails? ...fake hair?
Why bother? Too much effort, and they never look completely real anyways. Also, fake nails are one of my biggest pet peeves... they're just really ugly. My junior high school principle had these awful metallic blue ones with the airbrushed butterflies... EW.

I need to add another question. I'm actually surprised it didn't come up when the handbag question came up. Usually girls are bag hags or shoe whores, so this needs to be asked. lol

How many pairs of shoes do you own? What kind are they (pump, peep toe, strappy heel, clog, sandal, slingback, slip-on, etc...)?

To answer the shoe question...

I have a ton of shoes. The thing is that my feet haven't grown in probably 6 years, so I've just collected them over the years I guess...
3X converse high-tops (pink w/flowers, purple tweed, blue/green with flowers and black flies... the last ones are my fav, really cool looking actually with the bugs going up the sides)... basically I live in these and my flats
1X converse lowtops (red w/o laces)
1X dressy black heels (strappy and gorgeous)
1X blue/brown patterned peep toed pumps
1X brown work heels (office job for the summer, woohoo)
3X flipflops (a pair for the residence shower, two casual pairs for the beach and walking around in the summer)
1X cowboy boots (I do live in Alberta!)
1X pink Ugg boots (hah! I'm so cool! :P Shut up, they're comfy, and NO, I don't wear them with a mini skirt!!!)
1X Mocasin boots - grey and furry with blue beading (my true winter boots)
1X runners... a girl has to work out right?
1X Rainboots (I moved to Vancouver for school, and I HATE it when water soaks all the way up your pants, stupid rain)
lotsX flats - black, turquoise, red, brown, silver, leopard print with a quilted patent leather toe (SO cute!), dark blue w/ pointy toes, black and white polka dot, etc. um okay, I have too many!!!

And I'm going to add another question...

What shoes would you never wear? Why?
I'd have to say Crocs (neon and plastic... haha, enough said) and reallllly high wedges or platforms (can anybody say spice girls circa 1998?). The sad thing is that I've been seeing more of both lately!

ew ew ew crocs! i completely agreeeee wth were they thinking

Do you wear make-up? Yes but not much.

...everyday or frequently? Not everyday - maybe 2-3 times a week?

...if you do wear it frequently, do you feel self-conscious or insecure when you're not wearing it? Only if I feel like people will judge me and I'm trying to get a point across to those types of people. It's more annoying than anything else. Oh, and if I'm trying to get something at a discount, yes. Call me shallow! Go ahead!

...Do you get more compliments and more attention when you are? Not really. About equal but if anything only slightly more with make-up.

How much makeup do you wear? Eyeliner and eyeshadow only? Not a lot usually. I put some powder concealer on a reddish point I have on my nose, and a little under the eyes. Then I put some blush on and clear lip balm. If I go "all out" I put on some blue eyeliner on the bottom half of my eye for that "pop" and a little mascara. I'm very simple.

How much do you spend on makeup? A lot but I use it sparingly and keep it for years.

Do you have an expensive handbag too? One small black Coach clutch, classic!

How many handbags do you have? Maybe 5?

Are you swayed by consumer culture? Sometimes.

...is this just a woman thing? Probably more so than a man thing but by no means exclusive.

Do you get your eyebrows waxed? Nope, I'm a plucker.

Do you get tanned? (either lying outside in bikini or being baked in a tanning oven) Sometimes I get all lubed up and lay outside by the pool.

Manicures and pedicures? Sure, as a luxury but usually I just do my own at home.

Hair salons? Nope - natural hail color. I'll get a trim every once in a while so that's 30 bucks a pop.

How much do you spend on beauty products? Uh...well, I'm kind of a lotion junkie. Maybe $10-20 dollars a month on miscellaneous stuff?

Also, what do you think of corsets? Um, I would probably look like a wh*re in one but perhaps some people can pull it off.

Fake eyelashes? Nope - I like mine.

Fake nails? No way!

...fake hair? Absolutely not!

New Question:

Do you wear sunscreen everyday? What SPF? Yes! At least 30 SPF and sometimes I use the 55 SPF if I think I'm going to be hardcore sweating in the sun.

the shoes:
1x low top Converses (black)
3x sneakers (black/white/silver pumas, black pumas, black diesels)
2x dressy heels (black, silver)
2x patent pumps (black, red)
4x flats (silver, black, black patent, pink)
2x wedges (multicolor, black/white espradilles)
5x flipflops (white, brown, black/white, pink, navy)

UGH CROCS
i hate them with a PASSION
