If someone was a frequent blood donor, would that count as an EC?

I mean imagine, Joe smith donating blood maybe 20 times during his highschool career.
Thats 40 lives saved (supposedly).

Thoughts, comments?

holy crap... that may be significant... or a good essay topic... idk.. but that's alot! i cant even give blood at all cuz i dont weigh enough lol.

Yeah, im thinking about writing an essay on it.
Ive only given it twice (3rd will be october30 at my school), but i think the experience could definitely be a killer essay topic. Very creative.

okay, i was gonna say. no high schooler could've donated 20 times (unless they were held back an incredibly long time :-p)

i'm thinking of incorporating my blood donation in one of my essays, too.

so basically your essay is gonna say
"I'm awesome...look at all these lives I'm saving by doing no work whatsoever"

Nope! Bragging wouldnt be creative, now wouldnt it.

I think it is possible to give 20 times in highschool if u went to blood centers. Cause im pretty sure u can go like once every 3 weeks or somethin.

Er, what is there to say about giving blood? I wouldn't recommend writing about it unless you have some sort of related passion.

It would only work as an essay on a personal experience that had a significant impact on your perception, or sense of duty, in giving something back to the community or people in need.

I know a few prompts in particular for schools that this would work great for.
I dont think it works with common app ones though.

A donor must be 17 or older, and may not donate whole blood more often than every 8 weeks.

my Ds normal body temp is too high, so they think she is sick, but its just her

While whole blood can only be donated six times per year, there are other apheresis procedures (such as platelets) where one can donate up to 24 times per year, so 20+ times is possible. However, if giving blood is all you're doing I'm not sure it's really an EC. Giving blood AND volunteering at drives, or organizing drives, would be a better case. Sure, you could make it work, but no one's going to think you're absolutely amazing just by virtue of the number of donations you've racked up.

It's altruistic to donate blood, but that's not an EC. An EC would be creating and running a blood drive.

I don't even think it's a good essay topic. What are you going to say? "I donate blood a lot." Other than your being willing to spend donate, that doesn't tell very much about your character. Of course, if you're deathly afraid of needles and still manage to donate, that would tell a lot about your character.

My husband donates blood as frequently as they allow, and doesn't include that info on his resume. It would look silly. He does include charitable things that he organizes, such as fund raising activities that he has organized.

i'm not sure about bigtwix, but that's going to be a minor detail that supports the overarching message of my essay. (since i have a related passion and intended major)

and no, i don't consider it an ec either.

Hasn't this topic been brought up before?
