Anyone currently a Global Heatlh Minor. I thought for sure I would be International Studies/Political Science person...but the global health minor sounds really appealing...its not like i want to be a doctor but it seems like its geared toward disease pervention and such...any comments on it?

It's probably closer to public health than medical study.

It doesn't talk so much about actual diseases as it does health policy and social factors surrounding health in various areas.

well either way it sounds interesting. If you do international affairs with poli sci can u do a minor or is that too much...cosidering IA is more than a minor but less than a major

Not really. Lots of people do double-major at NU. Yours would be equivlaent to that. I guess.

You need 45 courses to graduate. That's more than many other schools already. My bet is there are lots of room for free electives. Hey, you can always graduate with 48 courses and that's not really overloading. That's the minimum requirement for McCormick anyway. Hehe, I think they should make ALL majors take 48. Why do engineers always get all the crap? :p

At one point, I was interested in public health. As a person who's still figuring out what I REALLY want to do, I can still see myself doing it. :)

arghh...see im so confused. If I do this global health thing i want to actually declare it not just take elective courses in it... i dunno i'll figure out what i want to do--hopefully my counselors can help.

I was talking about how you should have quite a few free electives that you may as well use them for your minor in Global Health. Many classes can be double-counted toward different majors/minors. So you can use some of your courses for Global Health minor to be counted toward the distro requirements for WCAS. That's why double-majoring doesn't mean you'd take 45 x 2 courses.

keenya2006, you don't have to decide anything right away. That's one of the wonderful things about NU, and one reason my daughter chose the school. You get to explore! You'll have a chance to try out different classes, and you may find yourself heading in a direction you don't even imagine right now.
