Global Youth Leadership Conference

Does anybody have a positive experience with this program? A teacher at my school apparently nominated me for this and I got the application and brochures in the mail a couple of days ago... it looks pretty interesting and I'm assuming its more legit than these regular program offers I've gotten since a faculty member had to nominate me. It looks like it consists of a series of seminars and lectures and whatnot... is it worthwhile?

hey i got that too! apparently you represent your state and school and the united states, and its supposingly very "selective"? but its expensive! and does it look good on a college resume?

There have been threads on this already. Apparently, it's not very prestigious or anything but some people report having had good experiences with it.

This program is worth nothing. It only shows colleges that you can afford the $2000-4000 price ticket.

yeah it's pretty much crap. it's just a way for them to get your money. plus...half the time they're lying about the teacher nomination thing.

they expect students to be so excited that they got the letter that they immediately label it as a big honor and think they have to go before researching it...fortunately you're alot smarter than that.

but...i could be wrong, you should do further research just to make sure.

It is very fluffy. Extremely fluffy. But everyone I know who's gone has had a good time. You get to meet a lot of new and diverse people. On the other hand, that's what college is for.

Thanks for the input! Well I do know that the nomination part is true because my history teacher told me that he nominated me... but I'm definitely going to have to look into it a bit deeper now, I highly doubt that I'll go though ($3000 for 10 days!).
