I received a letter in the mail today from U of Notre Dame inviting me to apply to the Glynnn Family Honors Program. They say that the application for this is due by April 15.

The puzzling thing is, I had gotten no correspondence from U of Notre Dame about my acceptance. Does this invitation mean that I am accepted to the university? I had nothing else in the envelope except for the letter inviting me to apply and a smallish brochure about the program. I read through the brochure and it says that "The Glynn Family Honors Program sends applications to select students shortly after they've been accepted at Notre Dame and annually admits 100 Glynn Scholars."

But the thing is, I have not yet received ANY indication from Notre Dame that I have been accepted! Is this a glitch? Should I contact them? Is this a letter they send out to everybody regardless of their acceptance status or not?

No, it’s not a glitch - you are in. Those letters all (ALL) go out at the same time, but they need to process the Honors program applications earlier, before enrollments start coming in. It’s a way of ND getting their hooks in you early in hopes that you’ll enroll by offering you the Honors program.

I know, it’s kind of confusing. I wish I could explain it better, but in any event, you’re in. (Of course, take this with a grain of salt. I say it with 99% confidence, but you always need to factor in human error - in this case mine)

thanks for the reply! That certainly makes me feel better, I was so confused. Jeez, they could have specified on the letter that they’ve accepted me or something before telling me to apply to the Honors Program. No hint at all about acceptance on the letter, though. So I was wondering why I would even bother to apply to this program if I could be rejected or waitlisted to U of Notre Dame itself.

What’s Reilly weekend? I got invited to the program as well, but all I got was that one letter in the mail. / Have you sent in that essay yet? I keep putting it off :

I was admitted EA to ND. I will be attending the reilly weekend this upcoming weekend and I also just sent in my application for the honors program. Does anybody know how selective this admissions process is to the honors program? By the wording of the letter, it sounds as though its not too selective but crunching the numbers would suggest otherwise. Anybody know?

I’m really unsure if I’m going to get into the program or not, but assuming the 100 they talk about is actual final yield and not the number of people they actually ask, I’d say that the chances of being accepted are pretty good.

Of course, like I said, the numbers do nothing to calm me down.

They are selective in who they ask to apply and you have to have the test scores and GPA for that, but I’m pretty sure almost everyone who applies gets in.

does anybody know whether you can apply for the honors program without being asked? how selective is it to get in? and is it true that they will send more invitations to accepted students in the next few days?

if you apply EA does your letter come in January? or can it come later in february or march?
i’m wondering because i hope its not too late for me to get the glynn program letter, because i satisfy all the requirements
