going to HKUST (Fall 2010)!

I know but those would cost me around 250,000 US $ , whereas Hk would cost me about 50,000 max! Plus I also have a scholarship for 1st year so it should really cost me around 35,000 MAX!! And then I save ONE year of my life and career path at HKUST!
I’m fluent in Mandarin but cant write properly yet, which I could learn to at HKUST!
What say ?!

And Hk is away from Home for me! India is very far from here (:

** EDIT NOTE:

UCB awaiting admission decision!!
Should be out on 25th of March hopefully! **

hey guys…
i had send an email regarding my supporting documents and i got a reply why was insufficient and irrelevant…
I just want to make sure again-hkust doesnt confirm whether the supporting documents have been received??
and 1 more thing…i need a few back up unis apart from HKUST and Imperial,UK
what does everyone think about CityU???is it worth applying

correction-*which
Btw i tracked it through dhl ,so i am positive it has reached…
cant believe they cant confirm through email…damn!!!

Anand if they receive it and its ok they normally dont bother replying or notifying, but a friend of mine had sent her stuff which for some unknown reason didnt reach them so they emailed her asking for the documents again and so she had to resend everything! Now all I can say is try finding out if they hve got everything the way they wanted it and if you had sent it to the correct address…
P.S.: Best solution is to call them!

yep…i have no option left but to call them…
btw what is your opinion about CityU???

I dunno about CityU, sorry!

Hey! Oh firstly, congrats man~ (:
I applied to HKU, but am not sure if I should apply to HKUST (BBA)… (I already completed the application though. I was jobless you see… xP)
I got 37/45 for IB. (775 in highers) And I did the GCE O Levels in Singapore. I have quite a few ECs. Do you think I stand a chance for a full scholarship?
(i know the site says 38 and above get full scholarships. Haha. Just asking really.)

alexavier: I dont think you would get the full scholarship, def the half though… BUT if you tell them you cant afford it and other Unis are offering you a scholarship, then they might get interested and offer you a full one!

Good Luck!

But the flexibility of the scholarship boundaries is best known only to the Uni themselves! So unless someone comes up and says they got a scholarship with one or two points off the set limit, I suggest you try to convince you need it and can maintain a good GPA if required!!

Advice Needed:
I want to buy a sports bike sometime around this December, in Hong Kong, but not a very expensive one!
I am planning to buy a Kawasaki Ninja 2010 250R, which is the cheapest sports bike I could find that was also good at the same time!~

I have two questions:

 1. How hard is it to get a permit for the bike in Hk? and how costly ?
 2. Is there any better (performance or cost) sports bike that I could buy ?

Hey, I also got an offer from HKUST for Engineering in 2010, with the scholarship. I have to reply by the 5th of feb. But dont know what to do yet.
I am pretty surprised to hear you are selecting HKUST over UCB or any of the other US unis you got offers from…but you’ve got your reasons.
I am also waiting for replies from UCB, UCLA, Imperial and NUS…

Hey LordXXX: First of all, Congrats!! Well if you think HKUST is where you wanna go then I reckon just do it asap, cause the papers do take some time to file etc. Accepting earlier also means you have a better chance of getting a good housing deal earlier!
Yeah i’m pretty keen on going to HKUST, and as you correctly noted from my list of reasons, it was a big decision but everything just went in favour of HKUST!
Good luck with the remaining Universities :)

Thanks for replying, Sarthak. So you are definitely going to HKUST…even if you get a scholarship from MIT? lol
Have you received offers from NUS and Imperial yet?
Btw, do you know how the Eng course at HKUST is structured?

Well considering the fact that I did not apply to MIT and even if I did i’m not smart enough to get a scholarship, I would go to HKUST !! And besides University for me is to study what you like but also not compromising on other things, and with a school like MIT I do not see that happening, cause there would be unending competitiveness and constant urge to outperform and prove yourself!!
I’m happy with HKUST ! well at least as of now :)

Yes I do happen to know the structure of the course at HKUST… its a 3 yeras degree, first semester you would be doing nearly maths all the time… because its a 3 yr degree instead of a 4 yr one, you should expect the semester work load to be a bit high but hey you end up saving a year! The core and elective courses are available online… you gotta pick 4 of the listed optional courses …

lol yeah you’re right…MIT will be full of smart people you’ll feel like a loser once you go there…
Thanks for explain the course for me…Is there a general eng part in the course?

And have you received offers from NUS or Imperial yet?

LordXXX: From what I have heard and expect, the first year would be a general engineering course, in the second year it narrows down further…
I haven’t heard from NUS yet, but Imperial was a positive response :)

Okay, thanks Sarthak. I havent received anything from Imperial yet.
When do you expect to hear from NUS? I heard that it takes a pretty long time…

Yeah NUS decisions do take a while… I’m expecting to have them by March end the latest…
