Winterbreak’s coming–what’s the cheapest way to go NYC? Bus or train?

I’m also wondering this. Is there a cheap/fast way to get to NYC from Amherst?

There is nothing that’s fast–you could probably hitch hike faster than the bus or the train.

That said, the Amherst train station is right behind campus and Amtrak runs one or two trains a day to Penn Station in New York.

Peter Pann also runs a couple of buses a day to the Port Authority bus terminal. They stop in Amherst on Main Street in front of the book store.

Maybe the cheapest public transportation option would be to take the Peter Pann bus to New Haven and get on the MTA Metro North commuter train line which has frequent departures to Grand Central Station in NY. The bus station and the train station are next to each other.

There’s a huge number of kids at Amherst from the NY area–shouldn’t it be easy enough to catch ride somewhere close enough to catch a train or bus into the city proper?

Bus or a ride from a friend
