I've talked to a couple of people, and they have all told me the same thing: Goizueta & Emory in general have little influence outside of the south. I know Goizueta is ranked 5th for undergraduate business programs, and I decided to apply to Emory EDII over NYU-Stern because of this and a multitude of other factors (really didn't like NYU and loved Emory even though I'm from NY). One thing I know for sure about Stern is the job placement there is awesome, I mean NYC is a financial capital and Stern has a big influence over the financial houses. Is the same for Emory in Atlanta?

I've read much about this, and I don't feel as if the business department undergraduates are quarantined to the south. Emory sends its grads all over the country, especially to LA, Boston, NYC, Chicago, and of course, Atlanta. I personally think that a Goizueta degree can take you anywhere if you're willing to go. i think it also has a lot to do with what you want to do out of Goizueta. If you are into consulting, then Goizueta is perfect. It has great recruitment... it's really not a surpise that Emory students are some of consulting firms favorite undergraduates.

But what do I know? I'm just a senior in high school.

haha, yea, a lot of the time when we seek advices from some generous college expert, we usually end up helping each other and rating each other's chances.

I'm farely certain that Emory has pretty strong influence in the south but I still have a question.

My concern is that how strong is Emory beyond that area? Is the criticism that recruiting is mostly from the south or that if you try to get a job in areas beyond the south it will be difficult? I would imagine that since emory is ranked 5th for business, you would be competitive for jobs regardless of location. Not sure if I made sense but yeah. I really like Emory but hope i wont be limited to the south.

I know at least 5 people who are working in NYC that graduated last May. And I was a freshman then, so I didn't know too many seniors. Goldman Sachs recruits from Goizueta, as does JP Morgan. I'm not in the business school, so I don't know too much more about recruiting. But, those are some big names that send recruiters down to Atlanta to get Emory students. If that's what you're looking for, then you can have it with some work. And yes, a lot of students also choose to stay in Atlanta.

maybe it's just becusae people realize how much they love atlanta and simply want to stay. coming from new england, i cannot picture myself actually working in Atlanta for the rest of my life, but who knows?

i dont know that people plan on living there the rest of their lives, but its a nice place to live after you graduate for a few years. and its not cold and snowy and miserable 6 months out of the year like the northeast. no offense.
