Hey...well today im opening a bank account...and my mom wanted to know if there are any good banks near ucla where i can set up an account with? i'm not really sure what she wants but i thought there was like a bruin card and u can deposit money into there from other bank accounts?

anyways does anyone have good bank recommendations near ucla?

there's a bank of america just a few minutes off campus, as well as bank of america ATM's all over campus. also, there are wells fargo and wamu ATM's around campus, and i believe there's a wamu branch somewhere in westwood.

Um, you might also want to be aware of which banks are tanking. WaMu currently is dropping fast in its ratings and prospects aren't good, so you might not want to do business there.

Oh please, enough with the FUD - wamu still has the best deal for checking accounts with the least fees and other such BS. And like all other accounts, it is FDIC insured. You are guaranteed not to loose your money.

In case you guys missed it, the entire banking world is in turmoil right now - yes, some are worse off than others, but you're just not going to find a bank that isn't in some sort of trouble with its loans department right now.

I love WaMu. But if you ever get a CD with them, do not let them automatically renew it after it matures the first time, because they may drastically lower your interest rate without informing you (like they did me). I can't wait to get a new CD when mine matures in Dec. (they lowered my interest rate by THREE PERCENT!).

U.S. Bank on Glendon and Wilshire is still walking distance and offers free checking accounts and u can use atm’s on campus with your check card.

Plus: they have this really great savings program which is something as a student you can’t do.

Everytime you use your credit card/check card/ u can transfer anywhere from .25 to dollar amount sent over to your savings account.

You save without even knowing it…and then when u reach a 1000 bucks they send you $50.
