which bank?

ill need to get a new bank account when i go to ucla, and i was wondering which are the most convenient? my parents are saying washington mutual...i saw some atms in ackerman (i think), but is there anything better? what do you all have and do you recommend it?

There are washington mutual, bank of america, and wells fargo ATMs on campus so any of those are pretty easy.

I have wells fargo cause that was the most convenient back home and it has worked fine here. The closest actual bank is on Wilshire, but I have never needed to go there.

+1 for Wells Fargo! :)

Wash Mu is the best. Lowest fees, great customer service.

yeah googogogogogog WaMu...

I'll have to say goodbye to their loveyl free checking though cries

On-campus, I have to say that WaMu is the best option.

But CitiBank offers much better services overall in my opinion.

Yeah, another vote for WaMu here. Citibank is great, and are expanding their CA presence a lot, but still don't have many ATMs out here except at their bank locations.

True, but for those of us who do most of our banking online (wink wink), Citibank offers incredible services. Plus, if you have a Citibank credit card, paying it off is as easy as three clicks on their site.

But yeah, the ATMs need to be expanded. To be fair though, a bunch of 7-Elevens now have CitiBank ATMs.

Any more opinions? I'm curious too.

East West Bank

WaMu free checking is the best if you intend to keep a low balance. if you plan on keeping more than $1500 in it, more options open up.

i have both WaMu and Citi. Citi is awesome, they have a 4.5% APY e-Savings account right now. =)

Bank of America. Can't beat the number of ATMs in Ackerman and the rest of campus, and the super-close branch right next to Burger King in Westwood.

They must be trying to compete with ING.

must say bank of america
saw many b of a atms at ackerman

probably. but this account is way better than ING/Emigrant/whatever else is out there as long as citi is your main bank. i get free instant transfers to/from my citi checking and access to it from any atm or branch, just like a regular savings account. i already had a citi checking account so this was a no brainer for me. :)

i have wells fargo here at home... where's its on-campus atm? i didn't see one while i was visiting...

There are several - in Ackerman and up by Northern lights are the ones that spring to mind.

So are there more citibank atm machines or wells fargo on campus or around the area?

wells fargo. there are no citibank atm's on campus at all.

what about around or outside the school?
