hey everyone,
I am going to be a senior in like a month or so and was really confused about what colleges to look into. I have a 31 act, 2030 sat and will give them both atleast once again and push them both a bit. I moved to the states a semester ago and i got straight A's in my classes (all accelerated, a couple honors and 1 AP and got a 4 on the exam). Im taking all AP courses next year. I got into the NHS and am currently working for an engineering firm in India. Btw, i knw that good colleges in the states look to expand diversity and all, so would being an Australian citizen with an Indian background(born in India too) and now living in the states for its great education help at all? I am looking to major in Industrial Engg. with a minor in econ. Im looking for some merit based aid as I dont qualify for any need based ones.

Plz help
Thanks

What is your immigration status in the US? Do you have a green card, or are you here with an F, J, G, H, or other visa? Are you considered an in-state student where you currently live and study? How much can your family afford to pay?

If there are a fair number of recent arrivals/international students at your high school, your own guidance counselor will be the person who is best able to help you with this. You also need to get copies of your secondary school records from the place(s) you studied before moving to the US. The colleges/universities that you apply to will need them.

And, please remember, in the US students “take” exams, teachers “give” them. Check each place that you apply to for English proficiency requirements. Some may ask for the TOEFL if you haven’t been educated entirely in schools where English is the medium of instruction - crazy I know, given your ACT and SAT scores, but some do ask for it.

ive taken care of all that. I studied at a school where the medium of instruction was english. plus my reading and english act is 32. The colleges im looking at right now don’t require me to give the TOEFL because of my scores. As such my parents dont have a problem putting upto 35K a year and because I will have a lot of AP credits by the time i graduate, i can save more money. Btw im on an L2 visa

and i dont know about the instate scene. Im living in illinois. any idea?

University of Illinois (Instate tuituion!)

You need to check the Illinois public universities to find out if you qualify for in-state tuition and fees based on the length of time you will have been living there when you would enroll.

L2 puts you in the international student category, so you won’t be eligible for federally determined (FAFSA) aid. There isn’t a lot of merit-based or need-based aid for international applicants. This means that you will have to carefully read through the websites of each institution that you are considering, in order to find out if there is anything that you might qualify for. You might get lucky and be the one international student on campus who is awarded a scholarship. For ideas on how to track this money down, read through some of the threads in the international student forum.

The good news is that 35k is a sizable sum of money. There are plenty of places that offer your major that will be affordable. Iowa State would be within this budget [Iowa State University](http://www.iastate.edu/) Remember that you need to find out the full estimated Cost of Attendance (COA) not just tuition and fees.

ive been checking out some colleges… and i heard about the buckeye scholarship from ohio state. does that offer extend to international students aswell?

Pick up the phone and call Ohio State about that.
