Good colleges near good slopes

Hey,

I'm considering going to college in the US (as an international undergraduate). I'm leaning towards majoring in some kind of engineering.
Deciding which colleges I want to attend, location and quality of their programs are high on my list. I love having all four seasons, and that includes a real winter with snow and driving up to the mountains to ride my board. And I am not moving halfway around the world for a suckish college, it needs to be good and respectable.

Thanks :)

Colorado school of mines has a great engineering program, and its colorado you cant go wrong.

Try the Univ. of Utah or BYU. Both offer Engineering, and they didn’t hold the 2002 Winter Olympic Games there for nothing.

Harvey Mudd is near Mt. Baldy. Great college, mediocre skiing.

U Utah has good science and engineering programs and fabulous skiing/snowboarding. Same goes for Colorado School of Mines, CU-Boulder, and UBC in Canada.

^ Yes, if the OP finds the U of Utah academically adequate, the ski opportunities are unparalleled; The Canyons is about 30 minutes away, and Alta, Snowbird, Park City, and Deer Valley (all world class resorts) are each 45-60 minutes away. In my opinion, the U of U is much more convenient to skiing than BYU.

Dartmouth has its own ski area.

^^And an engineering school. I was going to mention Dartmouth as well. The Dartmouth skiway is easily accessible (Shuttles from campus during winter), and if you have friends with cars who also like to ski, there are a number of other (better) ski areas near enough to campus for weekend day trips.

It will be hard to match all your criteria, namely great skiing, great academics, and engineering, in a college where an international student has a good shot at admissions plus (if necessary) financial aid. Dartmouth belongs on the short list if you have the stats. Academics overall are excellent although (like most of the other Ivies) it is not among the very top schools for general engineering. Here’s some information about Dartmouth skiing:

Of the schools ranked by US News in the top 10 for general engineering, Cornell seems to be the only one that has reasonably good access to ski slopes. Nothing great, apparently. It would be about 5 hours away by car to more serious skiing at Killington, Vt.

^Berkeley is 3 hours to Tahoe…;)

UCDavis has four seasons and is much closer to Tahoe than Berkeley is.

How about Gonzaga, in Spokane? A question, not a suggestion,

Tahoe skiing: UC Davis, UC Berkeley, Stanford, University of the Pacific, Santa Clara University. LA colleges for skiing at Mammoth.
