Good n' easy Engineering 100 section

I would recommend taking engr 101 first semester instead of engr 100.
I took Engr 100 first semester, and wanted to take IOE 201/202 2nd semester. Problem is Engr 101 is an enforced prereq for IOE 201/202, so they wouldn’t let me enroll.
I imagine there are other classes that are similar.

^ shoulda talked to wanda. I got an override 4 years ago.

I did, but she still refused to grant me the override…

I told her that I took 3 programming classes during high school, received a 5 on the AP Comp Sci A test (AB no longer exists), and that my current UROP project is programming intensive.

Despite all this, she told me that I would learn things in 101 that are necessary for 201/202. I even offered to take an exam to test my programming skills, but she was very stubborn and refused. Now that I’m in Engr 101, it’s a complete joke… I literally have not learned anything the entire semester.

Have you had a good experience with Wanda, Bearcats? The two times I’ve spoken with her this year, she was extremely rude and unhelpful… I was quite surprised by this since my Peer Advisor during orientation seemed to really like her.

What other classes have you gotten overrides for? I actually spoke with her recently, and she explicitly told me that she will not grant me any overrides for any reason during my 4 years here…

There’s nothing you need in 201/202 that requires engr 101.

I dont know why you have such an experience. I always get overrides from her. I have received more than a few overrides from her in my last 4 years. These overrides range for insufficient prereqs to skipping the waitlist. You need to have a good reason why you need the override though. You can’t just walk up and say I really want to take this class. The best way is to demonstrate that if you don’t take a certain class that particular semester you will fall significantly behind in terms of graduating in a desired semester, or that you have no better classes to take that are available. There are also certain things that are not negotiable. She was very adamant about overrides that she will not give exceptions to. I also feel that she has become more strict about granting overrides recently, so that might be why?

She is the type of person who would just give it straight to you though so I can understand why you would get the feeling that she was rude. I don’t get offended by people’s bluntness but some people do.

I have the feeling that you need to get on her good side. I personally feel that she has always been helpful but I do know people who think that she’s not.
