<p>As I remarked to someone who was impatient on the Barnard thread, colleges move at their pace, not yours, and there are sundry reasons that things can and do drag out. This isn't a knock at Smith's administration...I've worked for two different colleges and think that they're actually very responsive. It's just that "fast" has a different calibration sometimes relative to your expectations.</p>
<p>I'm not as impatient as my D's second choice college, which is pinging for the Stafford loan application (they claim we have less than 2 weeks before they cancel it).</p>
<p>Actually, TheDad, I was encouraged by your post re: asking those in the know to call the admissions office in the first place - but I certainly won't contact them a second time!</p>
<p>Odonata, it's good that you called. I would also call next week if you haven't heard. There can be a <em>wide</em> variety of helpfulness in many places depending upon who answers the phone. Also, one curt or brusque reply should never discourage you from calling again.</p>
<p>I guess I'm making two points here: you are well within bound to call and often you really should. Otoh, things may not move as quickly as you'd like but at least you know something beyond just speculating.</p>
