Smith will be going to wait list for tradtional students. For Ada Comstock scholars not looking so good. They want a class of 65 and 69 put their money in.But, in past years they have had students drop after deposit because of various reasons. They include health, economic reasons etc.So there is still a chance. If anyone has any Ada comments please let me know.I am a wait listed Ada and would love to go to Smith.I have been accepted to Sarah Lawrence and Bryn Mawr....but want Smith!

Any idea of how many students they will be looking for?

Or when for that matter? (sorry about that)

I have no idea.I would think that more then average. They were very conservative since they over enrolled last year. Are you on the wait list?

I am not but my daughter is and still has her heart set on Smith. She has done quite a bit to show interest but it seems like the chances are still pretty slim. I guess it will depend on how many students they need and how many are on the waitlist.

Well, they are going to the wait list. And it sounds like they are taking a good number.I have my heart on Smith but am prepared for the fact that I may not be going! What is your daughter going to do if she does not go to Smith?I wish her alot of luck!

She has deposited at another school but is planning on trasferring to Smith if the wait list doesn't work out. Is that something that is a possibility for you too? We have a family friend that is an Ada Comstock student and she loves it, it was a bit of an adjustment for her but she is happily settled. It sounds like you have some other good choices but good luck, I hope you end up where you'll be the happiest. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you too.

hey nastan, what sort of adjusting did your Ada friend have to go though? just curious.

She had been out of school for a while working and it was difficult to get back into school work, plus she had to move several hours away from her home. I think it is difficult to make these changes when you have established yourself somewhere and have put down roots. But she is very happy now and very glad she did it.

I am curious, how did you come upon this information about the wait list?

Mr. B, I've heard the same thing about the waitlist from a reliable back-channel source. If your D is still interested, I would not give up.

TheDad, Have you heard anything more about the particulars or just that they expected to go to the waitlist? I have yet to tell my daughter in case they are only taking a few students, I don't want her to get her hopes up.

I will be interested to see what the final numbers look like.

The Dad have you heard any more about Ada waitlist? What do you think chances are!I got my info from a very reliable source! It is my understanding that Smith is telling tradtional wait listed students that they are going to the wait list!

I haven't heard anything about the Ada waitlist at all.

Sorry to be slow in responding...I'm in NYC at the moment and will be in Northampton this Sunday. I hope to meet up with one of my friends there and will see if I can develop some info about the waitlists, both regular and Ada...it might take a few days.

Thanks for your help, any information is appreciated.

TheDad, D has no interest in the wait list approach to school and has committed herself to UCDavis. We got a letter in the mail today from Smith and I don't think she was going to even open it.....She has moved on and that is probably good. I hope everybody ends up as happy as she seems to be.

Was the letter from Smith an offer of admission? I know you say your daughter isn't interested, but I'm sure that others on the board who wait-listed and are interested, would love to know if they have started sending out offers to those on the wait list.

Wow, good luck to those on the waitlist. I know what it feels like, unfortunately. I'll be going to Smith unless I hear from my first choice, and it's excrutiating. It's good that they're using the waitlist. From what I hear, the women's colleges tend to take more people off the waitlist than other schools because they don't exceed their quota by all that much to begin with.

Anyways, luck to all!

My D recieved a letter from admissions also.
She did not place her name on the wait list.
The letter was confirming that she was not on
the wait list and inquiring on what college or
university she was going to.
