good scholarship amount?

Hi ! I was just wondering what would be a "good scholarship"? I got into CAS with a 34k schoarlship and, at first, I was really proud, but then i see that other people have gotten 40k and, even, 50k scholarships and yeah...kinda burst my bubble...so i was just wondering what is a good scholarship amount??

34k is a lot…i think average is like 20k~ with loans or something

I got 5K… Don’t even talk. And I know people who got 600 dollars… Yes, you read that correctly.

$34K is a lot from NYU, especially CAS… It’s a large school with lots of students, I’m sure not everyone gets that much. You should feel proud of yourself! They obviously want you!

I got a $37k scholarship from CAS and was also unsure of whether or not I should be happy until I found out how NYU is really bad with financial aid. I wouldn’t be able to go to NYU without that money so I’m really thankful!

I always heard NYU was awful with FA but I’ve seen so many people who received 30K+ in free money! It makes me sad, haha.

I think I remember reading somewhere that NYU doesn’t give merit scholarships. All the money that they give out they call them “Scholarships” but they are really Financial Aid. So if you don’t get any money then your EFC is high. At least that’s what I heard

Yeah my EFC was really high so I didn’t expect anything and people who have low EFCs tend to get ridiculous scholarships. They’re all financial based.

My family’s EFC is around 30k. Does that mean that I will get a small amount like 5k at most?

depends on how much they want you…if you read the financial aidthread thats stickied…nyu gives money based a combination of on how much they want you and your financial need.

If you barely make it in with low scores and they dont mind losing you as a potential student they might even give you $0 …maybe 10k. If you have amazing scores and they really want you it could be the 30k+

What are considered amazing scores? Are scores really the only thing that is considered to make you “desirable”? What about awards and your essays? No?

its a holistic review of your application…im not sure whats considered amazing scores
but I do know one of my classmates who had 2200~ sat, 95~ gpa, 5 5’s on aps, upcoming testing for 4, rigirous course load, 2-3 extra currics, 2-3 leadership positions and had 3 state level semifinal/final awards and he told me his efc was 45k, and he got a cas scholarship for 33,500 or something…

Um, you don’t necessarily have to have “amazing” scores to get good aid (you might just have to be really, really poor… I haven’t really figured it out yet) but my stats were about average for NYU (3.8 GPA, 31 ACT, top 25% class rank when I applied. nothing spectacular at all.) and I got a little less than $50K in scholarships which everyone tells me is way generous for them. I honestly can’t see why they would really want me or mind losing me as a potential student unless they’re trying to increase everyone’s aid. The only thing I could see is that my family is really poor (but you guys keep stressing that need doesn’t have much to do with it).

I think it’s a mix but MAINLY financial aid. I got a 35 ACT and 3.9/4.6 GPA. My EFC was like 49k hence why I got only 5k. I know people who had EFCs that were similar but lower stats so they didn’t get anything however people with lower stats than me got more money. It’s all some sort of formula.

I say mainly financial need because NYU is need blind so their financial department has no contact w/ admissions…

nyu is known for giving more money to the people they want its known afaik
