No. TOEFL is a pass/fail test. You need to pass a certain minimum to demonstrate your English proficiency and then they will evaluate you on your SAT just like everybody else.

Many top schools don't require the TOEFL if your critical reading is above a certain level (e.g., 670 for Cornell).

100 is generally considered good

yeah, 100+

I got 90 on the TOEFL and I'm well aware that the MINIMUM TOEFL score to be required at most colleges ranges from 80 to 83. But I wonder if my score is too mediocre to be worth a retaking? :-S

that again depends upon the colleges ur planning to apply to. if they'r particular about high TOEFL scores u can retest. If u've a good score in CR then most of the colleges waive TOEFL requirement. the best bet would be to mail admissions and ask.
Good luck!

115+ Great!
110+ Very Good!
100+ Good (fulfills the TOEFL requirement for ALL colleges)
90+ Fulfills a majority of the college's TOEFL requirement

is it true that if i'm applying to top US colleges, say HYPMS and such, with a toefl score below 100, they will not open my application and will just reject me right away?

i got a 118

i believe anything over a 110 is considered top notch

No. I studied in an English-speaking institution for four years, got 750 for CR SAT and didn't submit TOEFL. Many of my friends and seniors didn't either.

You don't get rejected 'right away' in top colleges. I know kids who got in with like 530 CR

Harvard and Stanford don't even require TOEFL. I suppose they figure that you won't get in unless you are truly outstanding. On the other hand, scoring 100 or 120 makes no difference 'cause you will be evaluated based on other more important factors.

Hi, i'm new here. I think you should ask the admissions office of the schools you're applying to if they waive it if you get a good SAT CR score. But it doesn't hurt to do it either. I wasn't planning on doing it because the private schools I am going to apply told me they'd waive it but the UC schools don't so I ended up doing it. So check with school.
