I have a few questions about the Google Bold internship (the business one, not the Google Bold practicum). Just to be clear, I already have a recommendation from someone who worked at Google. The rest of my resume is good (leadership in clubs, 3.8 gpa...)

I just want to know the following:

1) how many people apply to this internship? I saw that it's only open on their website for a month! So I have no clue how many would be able to apply for this...

2) How people are interviewed for this internship? (I know that there are 80 Bold interns who attended last year (I read the blog), but I am not sure how many openings there are officially (I think it should be somewhere close to 80 <--- who would reject?! O-o..))

I mean if 160 people are actually interviewed for the google bold internships, then that would give me some hope :o

Thanks a lot everyone :) I know these are really specific questions, but if anyone has a clue to the answers, please answer :D

I don’t know the actual numbers for the Google Bold program, but I do know that other top corporations recruiting interns for their cross-functional positions generally interview candidates at much less than a 50% acceptance ratio.

If this program is anything like others then I’d hazard a guess that they would take anywhere from 10-25% of those that they interview, but this depends solely on how much they narrow down the applicants before interviewing.

They could interview 800 people regionally in the first round interview, then fly those who passed to the next round to a central location.

But honestly, I don’t even know if they have multiple round interviews, though I would be surprised if they didn’t. There was an info session on campus that Google put on about this program but I couldn’t go, and I’ve heard so little about it that I can’t be of any concrete help. I just thought I’d give my insight, which is pure opinion.

fyi, I found this video, it gives a lot of info about the program for anyone else who was wondering Apparently, there were 139 spots last year and there will apparently be more this year.

hey, I just applied to the program yesterday.

I didn’t give any letter of rec, cause they didn’t ask for it, and I don’t have anyone from google to write one for me, but I think the rest of my app is pretty solid.

I am a URM, and I know they really try to make sure we apply and stuff.

Only other fault on my app is my GPA. It is just below a 3.4, but I go to a very competitive, Tier 1 Target University and am in their business school, so hopefully that makes makes up for something. Anyways, good luck!

I am applying to the Google BOLD internship as well, and I was wondering if you found out any more numbers; how many people may be accepted, etc.

I met some Google employees at the Google FUSE Conference 2009. Do you think I should get in touch with them and ask them for help getting in?

Also, I’m kind of worried about the essay. The prompt doesn’t really make sense to me… I don’t really see how the first sentence and the second sentence are related. Any insights?

In case you forgot what the essay prompt is:
“Diversity and inclusion are fundamental to Google’s business. How will the BOLD program complement your personal and professional goals?”

The obviously want you to talk about diversity and inclusion are part of your personal/professional goals and what you’d bring to Google in that respect.

@davism12 - look at the link I posted above to a video from Hamilton College…in it the girl says that there are 139 spots open total ( the highest being 82 in mtv and 14 in san fran), she also gives loads of other info about the program

Just focus on the second part of the question and then how that will help google.

Does any one know for sure if the SAT score section is mandatory? I was a transfer student, so I never the SAT 1 exam. But I’ve taken a few SAT’s 2 exams. I’m not apply until next year, so I have plenty of time to take the SAT 1 exam if I need too.

I applied to the BOLD program as well. I hope i get in. There was a webinar info session you could’ve listened to and one of the representatives stated that it is much easier to get a BOLD internship than it is to get a full time offer with Google. She also stated that they will be accepting much more people this year (though it is still competitive)

Does anyone know how much easier it is to get into if one is a URM? Also, how much would someone applying for a finance position get paid (ballpark, obviously lol)?

@House of London: Is the transcript of that webinar posted anywhere? Even though I just submitted my application, I’d still like to read/listen to it.

woodendynomite, the program is geared towards attracting and recruiting minorities with the intentions of filling the gap that is in the technology and business world. So I don’t think it would be a huge boost to be a minority since you’re going to be competing against other highly qualified minorities as well. (this includes African Americans, Latinos, Asians, Native Americans)

davism12, if I find the transcript I will PM you.

Yea, I understand, but I was commenting on the fact that many non-URM’s apply as well. Does anyone know if being a non-URM makes it more difficult to get into the program? Reason being is that I was reading an old thread, and most people were rejected, and all who were rejected had said they were white.

hey annnthony, the 140 interns number is correct :D, but how do you know the 3,400 number? I am tempted to believe that you are correct (so if you are, please say so :)), but I, like HouseofLondon, thought the number was much lower…it’s definitely more than a 1000, I would bet my money on that

Yes! I heard that too. They’re going to expand the number of interns :D

woodendynomite - it is a bit harder if you are white, but it is certainly NOT true that no white people get in. Most likely, if you get an interview, all races are equal from that point onwards.

HouseofLondon - sigh, I wish our school had had a seminar for this program You’re so lucky Good luck on your app! :)

aikomidori, no. LOL. It wasn’t a seminar hosted by my school at all. It was a webinar email that was sent to me saying they will host a virtual conference. It was this:
