Got a D in the first semester of senior year

So my first semester of senior year has just finished. My teachers have not put in the final grades but it is technically going to be a B,B,A,C, and D. This D is in AP Environemtnal Science and it is my 3rd year of science. I have applied already to 4 CSU’s and 4 UC’s. So far I have only gotten one acceptance from a CSU which is Channel Islands. My weighted GPA from 10-12 at the moment is a 3.16 and 9-12 is a 3.2, now I don’t know how that D will affect my GPA. I have talked to my counselor and she had suggested dropping the class and replacing it with an elective but I took the decision of not dropping it because I am willing to do much better next semester with at least C or even better a B in the class. What is the chance that the colleges I applied to especially the CSU’s will reject / rescind my admission. The good thing about this is that I am still graduating and my counselor had told me if does not affect my graduation status at all but I would have to contact the colleges and report to them about my D and see if they would reject me or not. My dream school is Cal State San Marcos but if this does happen then I am willing to go to a community college and then transfer. It would be much appreciated if anyone who had a similar situation as me would tell me their stories as well but really anyone could tell me their opinions. I am also going to email/contact/call all the admission offices soon when my final 7th semester is put in. Thank you

contact the schools you applied to and ask.

What other science courses have you taken? If you already took Biology and Chemistry (or Physics), I believe you should be fine because you already completed the “D” requirement from the A-G list. If you haven’t taken 2 years of lab science, this could be a major problem. UC’s and CSU’s state that you must get a C or better in your classes for senior year. Getting a C this semester in APES won’t help you because UC’s don’t validate grades for science. If you applied to UCB and UCLA, they probably have a stricter provisional admission contract. Contact the UC help center, and find out what to do next. As for the CSU’s, you have to call each individual admissions office. It’s the fastest way.

Some Cal States are lenient than others in regards to rescinding acceptances. I suggest you contact the CSU’s and see what are your options. Many will wait until fir your final grades at the end if Senior year. But better to find out now.

For the UC’s are need to contact UC admissions and there is a high chance it will affect your admission decisions. Again be proactive so you have a contingency plan.

Freshmen: If you change schools, add or drop a course, or fail to earn a C or better in a course after you submit your application, you must notify the UC Application Center by email or postal mail. Your correspondence must include your name, UC Application ID number and your signature (if you mail a letter), and will be available to all the campuses to which you applied.

If you receive an offer of admission, be sure to confirm with the campus admission office that they are aware of the deficient grade or schedule changes. Although you must notify the campus of these changes, we cannot guarantee that a campus can go back to review an application after correspondence has been received. Make sure to save a copy of your correspondence just in case.

Sorry for the typo’s (using my phone) but bottom line contact the schools and find out what you can do to keep your acceptances.

Does a C- qualify ? Its give a 2.0 so I am wondering… I had a bad semester… my FIRST ever grade under a 90% … like EVER… going back to 4th grade and now I am sweating it. Will all my hard work be destroyed because of a C- in Civics?

@TadCooper98: A C- is passing so you are OK. Just make sure you get that C- up at least a solid C before year’s end.

@Gumbymom . WHEW! Don’t worry…it wont happen again. I am already back up to 98% … I had a bad patch in Novemeber that just messed me ALL up. Thanks again

Contact the schools RIGHT away. I had a friend who had her UC admission rescinded the moment they found out about her D. Make sure to write each schools why you got the D and how willing and ready you are to do better this semester and to please keep you in consideration.
