^^^ I know admissions and fin. aid are separate, but seriously, decisions come out in a week. That’s just too much added to the boiling excitement.

Why wouldn’t financial aid tell me I needed those papers in January February or beginning of March? (this is not a rhetorical question, I want to know)

And someone told me that the financial aid office does not know who was accepted until April 1st. Does anyone know this to be true? (this may be true, but that must then mean they calculate everyone’s financial eligibility regardless if they got in or not, right? Why would they do that?)

If anyone can provide a response, it would be very much appreciated.

I got one of these letters in the mail as well, hadn’t sent in my parent’s taxes. Maybe this points to an acceptance in the near future?

^ You are a URM, so that makes me feel good about the entire situation. Let’s hope there is an acceptance in the near future, although let’s prepare for the worst! Good luck!

I too received a letter today from Wharton/UPenn telling me to submit their own specific financial aid application (opps! didnt know they had one). Anyway, I think (though I may indeed be biased) view this as a good sign. Why the heck would Upenn send anyone a letter trying to confirm a financial situation literally under a week before decisions are out. If this really doesnt mean anything, the entire financial system at colleges is fairly slow and ineffective. So, I think theres a very good shot we are both in. Heres my stats below if you care:

4.0/Val/2340 and was admitted to Vandy (full ride) and Dartmouth (LL)

I am really hopeful, though I am not likely to be accepted. :P

Admitted to UVa(Echols), University of Chicago, and Emory thus far, so I hope this looks just as good. :D

Guys, hate to tell you this but FA offices everywhere calculate packages for every single applicant who applies for aid, they need to do so in order to get the package out in a timely manner, so they are doing packages for kids who are about to be denied.
So there is no meaning to that letter/email; it is simply a ‘missing info’ letter.

:( Hang in there.

If it helps, I need to submit more financial aid information but have not received this message. Judging by the other schools I’ve been rejected from, this one is most likely a rejection, too.

I am going to say “not enough information.” Don’t let this be a signal one way or the other – they have to do it for everyone. If you’re a strong candidate, then hope for the best. G’luck!

They honestly calculate financial aid for every application! Wow, that wastes soo much time!

More Wishful Thinking:

Five other people from my school did not submit 2009 tax returns and they did
not receive the letter. Why did I get it and not them?

It is possible that they calculate everyone’s financial elgibility, (although, how does that make sense when they need to keep the budget in mind?) but they only do estimates initially. Why would they send that letter if the 2009 tax returns, according to penn, is to give a final number? Moreover, why would they send it duing the last week of March if they know they would not get the papers back until after April first?

My wishful thinking have any validity?

Again, given the fact that people have received FA offers before acceptances in the past, I really don’t think Penn is still on the stage of evaluating FA for every applicant. More likely they know that certain people have been accepted and realize that this needs to be as accurate as possible whereas during earlier stages they can let some things slide.

That, or Penn isn’t really need-blind and they’re making the last few decisions based on money. I highly doubt that’s the case though.

^^^ So that’s good news right?

Because Columbia did the same thing, and I was like… :-0 oh my
But then again, the realist in me wanted to just say maybe it’s a coinky-dink.

Hypothetically, if Penn calculated everyone’s financial aid before admitting students then they would be royally f$@cked if only the people who needed $30,000+ were accepted; they just would not be able to afford it.

I’m really starting to wonder what this letter means. D-Day is so close!

My daughters got in and we were supposed to get that letter but it was lost. It was part of her notice in the FA portal. I have to call them today…the acceptance was a shock, a reach school, that they hadn’t visited (one of 3) We will now!

^^^ Same here. I would’ve never known. I wasn’t gonna check my decisions lol (not really), but wouldn’t it be cool to just wait for the mail esp. if you live in the area?
