After a long period of anxious waiting for any kind of information, I finally was not let down upon my daily mailbox raid! I got a letter saying I had been scheduled for a MOC interview on Dec 10th. It’s for house rep. Anna Eshoo (14th district, CA).

Anyone else here applying from California? Still haven’t heard anything at all from senator Diane Feinstein, and I sent back the rather large application from senator Barbar Boxer - haven’t heard anything since then. I also got a letter back from one of Vice President Dick Chenney’s secretary’s saying that they received my nomination request and would look into it with full consideration… I thought that was kinda cool since the VP probably gets 1000’s of requests. Still no LOA…have a medical waiver that hasn’t been processed yet.

I was wondering if anyone brought anything to their interviews, like a resume? I considered it at first, however I sent them so much information in the MOC nomination application that they requested from me, so I thought it would just be too repetitive. If anyone has any additional advice to give, including examples of questions that they remember, I’d love to hear it :)

The letter said the interview will last approximately 30 minutes…yikes, that sounds like a long time! I remember the actual interview part of my meeting with my ALO was only like 10 minutes, with the other 2 hours being just informative discussion. Were your interviews a constant stream of questions? That seems like there will be a ton of questions, oh well…more time for them to get to know my wonderful self (if things are going well…I hope) =)

In my ALO interview, I brought my resume and a few of my achievements, not too much. He said he was impressed with my planning and orginization and obvious desire. Can't hurt to bring a resume. If they already have it, don't give it to them. If they need another copy, you are all set.

HEY!
My MOC is Duncan Hunter CA 52. I had my interview nov. 8. originall it said about 20 mins for the interview but it lasted 5-10. there were 5 people on my board and each asked a ?. the ?s that i remember were somthing along the lines of:

What do you plan on majoring in?

What is your intended career? If you can't do that which other job would you have?

Do you want to make the military your career or do 5 and get out?

(i visited my sis at WP and included it in the app) Do you like WP is there anything you disliked?

(i just moved from vegas to san diego) Which do you like better and why?

What does integrity mean to you?

Lastly, there was a ? about a club that I was in and what I had done in it.

It wouldn't hurt to bring a resume, but they have two copies of my app packet in their hands and passed them around as they asked questions. Mine went well I got a nomination to WP.

I also have not heard back from either senator.

Arrive EARLY!! I've been to two interviews (just got back from one 2 hours ago) and both of the coordinator-type people for the MOC were like, "Wow, you're here early, that's great!" They said to be there 15 minutes early but I think I got there like 25 minutes early and just took a book so I could sit there without looking bored. They also got me in early and said that was nice cuz it helped them sty on time. Good luck.

Haha, yes that was us!! Hope your son had a good interview, the panel was really nice!

btw - even though this is the USAFA message board, I'm not applying there - just USNA and USMA. Talent's assisstant said we won't know about his nominations till JANUARY!!! oh the agony.

MODADKC and marmadillo
We could have had our own thread in person. My son and I were there about 10:45. I felt sorry for the panel as they were going all day until about 6PM. My son said it went real well. He is focused on USMA.
In addition to Talent's I have taken him to the interview for MO 5th and I must say I am very impressed with all of the canidates. Any LOA's or other good news?

Yup - got a letter from Bond yesterday saying he's giving me a nomination to USNA!!! This is so exciting, I've got my fingers crossed for both of your sons, rasdad and MODADKC!

Marmadillo and MODADKC..Man, that was some Friday. My son received a nomination letter from Senator Bond for USMA. With his LOA, one step closer.

Well I just came home from the interview. I think it went ok...

They spent most of the questions making sure the AFA was my #1 choice and that I would accept a nomination and not waste it for someone else. One thing I might've slipped up on is when they asked about the air force honor code. First they asked me if I knew it, which I did, but then they asked me to explain it. I tried hard but I think I missed what they were looking for, because one of them, who was a pretty high-up air force officer, spent awhile afterwards explaining it...oh well, I tried my best, can't do anything now but wait.

As I was leaving, one of them said Thanks for coming and "don't worry about it" in a way that gave me a hint of optimism. Hmm I'm still nervous about it though... the interview didn't go perfectly...

It didn't help that the first time I got sick with a cold this year was right before the interview =( I felt like crud and my voice probably sounded funny. They said they'd let me know by the first of the year.

UGH I hate this waiting (not to be excessively colloquial) !! I thought I would be so relaxed and worry-free after my interview, because it's the very last thing I have to do for my application, and winter break is coming up, but I'm even MORE uneasy now!

Darnit! Two days before two of my MOC interviews (tues), and I'm sitting here with my left eye swollen shut! I was running on a trail near my house, and slipped on a patch of ice and slammed my face into metal fence post. My eye is going to be black and blue and swollen for the interview.

Is that a bad thing? Shows you are not afraid to do something where you are bound to get hurt (sorry for the injury though, its gotta suck). Also if you were running (training for the academy?) it shows you are serious about it!

Im sure with some makeup you can prevent it from being the worst possible looking thing.

Eh, it's not TOO bad thankfully. My eye is just a little black and blue and swollen. At least I didn't poke my eye out or smash my eye socket or anything like that.
