I was just admitted to Muir as a theatre major for Winter 2010. I was just wondering something about housing. If I was to do my fall quarter at the UCSD extension in San Diego, is there any way that I could get on-campus housing for fall quarter either by wait-list or by other means? The only thing that scares me about the Winter Admit is the not guaranteed housing.

Other than this, I am absolutely thrilled to be admitted to UCSD (a school that I never would have thought in a million years I could go to) even if I do have to start a quarter behind. It's only a quarter and they do have Winter Welcome Week to help those students matriculating in the Winter to find their footing.

bumping winter admits to start fall quarter has happened before, but it did not last year.
dont count on it.

there is probably a waitlist for fall quarter, not 100% sure, but I do know for sure that there is one for winter and spring quarters. and many winter admits did get housing for winter, its a matter of how long you can wait for it.

for those who are moving down to sd right before winter quarter and isnt doing the extension program in the fall, (waitlist last year for winter opened beginning of november) you may get offered housing out before christmas eve or after winter quarter begins.

Does anyone know what the point categories are? I dont really want to call them unless there is a category that I feel they may have made an error in

I got this too, according to stuff I've seen it means that you just missed the cut. I think it's a bunch of BS though that I now can't really get housing

Also, chances of people being bumped from Fall is extremely low. Just think about it, UCSD says they admitted 18,880 for fall quarter admission, but freshman that attend are about a little over 4,000 so it seems unlikely to me that they will have enough people reject the admission to have room for people.

i got admitted for winter quarter also. i was not expecting that but im happy that i least got in :)
im hoping i can appeal because i just won 3rd place at DECA state and im moving onto internationals, so maybe that will get me the extra points needed?

linda_x - usually appeals will not consider new awards or accomplishments after the application deadline. What does help tremendously is if you were owed points for some achievement but they didn't pick it up. Maybe even because you didn't highlight it in the application but it was an existing situation. Look at the points categories and particularly the UCSD rubric for when they grant points for each. If you can find a case where you think you deserve more points, and if those additional points are enough to change the admissions decision, they will willingly help you appeal.

I'm not going to lie, I'm a little bummed that we will probably miss out on some experiences/bonding that the fall admits will have. Is anyone else worried about the social aspect of this too? I hear that ucsd is not the best place to meet new people. I just don't want to be the new girl.

And how about living conditions? We're not guaranteed housing.
To me, this is a huggge con. I would have liked the frosh experience ( a dorm, with a roomate).

I am still thrilled I got in..but waiting for ucsb and ucla.

How about you guys?? What were your stats?? How are you feeling about this?

I read this oppurtunity was only given to about 670 students.

I'm so thrilled to be admitted even for winter, but the housing thing really scares me. What I might do is get an apartment and do UCSD extension for fall quarter and see if that might help me get used to SD before I move over to the actual campus (and if I don't get housing, I would already have a place).
