think+, ucsd extension is just as it sounds, u take classes through the extension, i think you are then eligible to take classes at UCSD and get units for them

not 100% how it works but i know people do it

The lottery, if that's how it were done, obviously wouldn't include Regent scholars.

I've talked to countless other winter admits and a staggering number had better stats than many fall admits and, of course, the average stats for admitted students.

I'm just saying, there's no other way to explain it.

I was a 4.05/2130 and got Winter. Of course I was bummed (and puzzled) for the entire Fall quarter but once you get here it's really easy to assimilate.

I lived off campus for the first 2 weeks. Living off campus isn't as dreadful as people make it out to be as long as you put yourself out there. Also, Public transportation to school makes things easier.

Of course, if your goal is really to live on campus (as mine was), a winter housing waitlist opens up in early November. Wake up early and get your name on it. I ended up being #1 and now I live very comfortably in ERC, although I'm a Warren student.

No, you can't appeal winter admission.

There are only 2 major differences with being admitted into winter. The first is housing, which I already talked about, and the 2nd is registration. It does suck that winter admits get the latest enrollment date for picking classes (usually priority goes to those with more units). I still got every class I wanted, though.

Once winter quarter is over, you're placed on the normal registration track, meaning if you have a higher number of units than other freshman you'll be bumped up and able to enroll at an earlier date. In other words, I ended up happy and with the exact same spring schedule that I had planned out.

Stan, you took classes at UCSD during the fall while off-campus? Or what did you do during the fall? Did you take classes at JC or what should I do during the fall before the winter this year?

look at the points, staneda224, not just the 'stats'. They don't admit by simple stats.

I did look at the points system. The "stats" I referred to comprise about 70% of those stats.

I might be wrong. I'm just saying, it was pretty shocking to talk to a fall admit who got < 1500 on his SAT.

Me and one other guy from my school got this. I applied Undecided, he applied Bioengineering. Does the major matter in this situation?

Also, does anybody know about the UCSD Extensions program? I heard that is an option for people in this situation

DId anyone else from Winter admit see their fin.aid package and see that Total UCSD cost was 17k? I'm confused..

i don't know about admit day, depends what happens with other schools.
yeah i also got the 17k for cost. what do you not get?

junshik: Yeah, I took classes at my local community college during Fall quarter (it was on a semester system though, so multiply however many units you take there by 1.5 to get your UCSD-equivalent). Look at your college's GE's and see what your community college offers that qualify (use assist.org).

Actually, before you do that, enjoy the rest of senior year.. haha.

ahh okay I see why it was 17k. and Thanks Stan.

Yeah total cost was 17K for me too, but I don't get why, but it ended up being covered by most of my financial aid

I also got accepted to winter 2010, to Muir as a bio major.

Im incredibly bummed about housing, i really wanted to live on campus my first year. Ucsd was my first choice school but now im re-considering because i really wanted the first year dorm experience.

Is anyone else totally confused about all of this?

@ masterhammy, we got 17k because we are winter quarter admits. We will be attending UCSD as freshman for 2/3 for the time, that is why we pay 2/3 less, in theory.

I got 10.3k in grants and 6.7k in loans.

hammy which college you in?

@ hope, I know people that were bumped up to fall housing last year. So do not lose hope.. also, off-campus housing is not too bad. It is generally cheaper, but I agree... it is a bummer that we are deprived of dorm experience as freshman

I'm in Muir. Do you know then if my financial aid won't cover all it does sophomore year that it did this year? Also, who wants to set up a facebook group for us lol

Your financial aid for soph. year will depend on your 2009 parents' tax return, and perhaps yours if you have a source of income. So I believe you'll be going through another FAFSA process similar to the one you did this past year.

It seemed like my parent's cost was extremely low. I guess because of the 17k thing, but yeah Financial Aid was such a hassle this year with all the different things to do. I won't mind next year with just the FAFSA

awh, i was excited to see i got accepted into ucsd yesterday since it's been my 1st choice since sophomore year....then i reread &it was for winter quarter, and i don't know what to think anymore.

do you take cc courses in the fall then? how do you make sure the credits get transferred? and off-campus housing seems so complicated...at least there's sure to be other people who got accepted for winter quarter looking for housing, too...roomies! xD

yeah KWANiTEE, its a bittersweet feeling. But be thankful that we got in!!

Yeah, us winter admits are going to have to take cc courses for the fall. Probably gonna have to check the GE's for your college, and see which are transferable from CC. Hopefully we'll get bumped up to fall housing, if possible.

Which college did you get into? I'm Warren
