I submitted all my apps, sent out all my SAT scores, and got all my transcript release forms into the guidance department. Now how do I make sure the mail man didn't screw me?? If a college is missing part of my application package does that disqualify me or do they notify me that something is missing? Thanks.

As long as your application is received by the deadline, you are fine. They are more forgiving to the College Board, your teachers and your g.c.! I think they will notify you soon if you are missing anything.

thanks. o btw, if commonapp online says that a school "downloaded" my app, does that mean they received it?

Yeah, I was wondering about that, too.

I submitted something on Dec 15 for a deadline that same day, but it wasn't downloaded until 12/16... is that bad? Or is that pretty much standard?

Did you answer the why do you want to come here question on the supplements? Believe it or not, some applicants forget to answer that important queston.

If the school said they downloaded your application it means that they did receive it. I suggest that you create a file just to hold the return e-mails from the school so that you have a record that the school got your application (make sure you hold on to the e-mail until every thing is done.)

Anyone here familiar with what happens if you snail mail your applications, but left an e-mail? Will they send some kind of confirmation?

Unless the school has an on line tracking system, they will normally not contact you unless something is missing. Some schools may not contact you then.

If you have not taken them to the post office yet, I would recommend inseting a self addressed post card in the envelope. On the other side write

Received by Admissions department

Signature

Date

Who ever gets your application in the admissions department will most likely sign or stamp the post card and mail it back to you. (You will then have written confirmation).

I would recommend inserting a return address post card for everything you send to the school snail mail; teacher recs (give to the teacher so they can inset in their envelopes -put teachers initials in lower corner so you know which rec, the school received), fees, GC rec/transcripts, supplemental essays, etc.

sybbie: Thanks for the response. I actually had my teachers give my recommendations to my guidance counselor, and she sent everything, school report, transcripts, recommendations in one giant envelope about two weeks ago. I didn't think of the post card thing, but I think they'll be fine. For my main application, supplements, financial aid forms etc... I used a USPS Return Receipt. They'll be required to sign each envelope I send, and then USPS will send me back the signature. So, I'm not worried about that; I was just wondering whether I'd get some kind of online account, where I could check my application status, particularly come April. Are the decisions usually mailed April 1st, or a few days earlier? Excuse all the questions :)
