Just recently, I received an IU Housing email stating that there were certain LLCs and thematic communities which still had space available that I have the option to still apply to. I completed my housing contract in April and my top choice was an Honors community, but I can see that on the list of communities listed as still containing space, the HRCs are not among them.
I’m thinking I should probably be concerned about this given the supposed state of housing at IU right now. Can I assume I won’t be assigned to an HRC regardless of what I do next? Do you think it’d be a good idea to apply to some LLCs I’m interested in so that I don’t receive a particularly sketchy dorm assignment?
Do you and your roommate (if you have one) want to live in an HRC?
If not, I’d apply for an LLC. You can see on one.iu which dorm you’ve been assigned to. If it’s not Wright, you should be fine (no offense Wright, but…).
If you do want to live in an HRC, CALL HUTTON NOW. The later you ask, the less likely it is that they can make an exception for you. I was in the same boat as you. Honors student, didn’t get into an HRC. We only found out later that it was because RPS messed up our application. We (my roommate and I) called Hutton and they told us there was a lot of space in the Forest HRC, and so we went through the housing transfer process. It wasn’t painful and the entire process took less than a week.
I would strongly consider an LLC especially If it is in a dorm you want. With the housing shortage this year RPS is scrambling. For example: maybe you would never consider Spectrum LLC. You do not have to be LBGT&Q but you have to be supportive. It is in Forest which is a very nice.
