I go to a university in England but I'm a CA resident.

I found it quite difficult to fill out the UC application correctly because the English grading system is completely different from CCC's or any university in America in general.

I just got an email from UCLA asking for a transcript from my university, which I got and scanned them (to their request).

Should I take this as good news (that they might actually be considering my application) or just no news (as in they do this for every application they come across). Seeing a 3% admission rate for previous years for people in my situation has not given me much hope I'll be honest. So do you think it's good they didn't just throw away my application right away or do you think they do this for everyone? Thaaaaanks.

Oh I applied to Berk and UCLA. Even though the email said it was from UCLA it also said it would share everything with the other universities I'd applied to.

I have berm waiting for a similar email from UCI, but haven’t received anything yet. I have also attended classes in a foreign institution. Did they ask you to have the university send them the transcripts directly or they accepted a copy from you? Has anyone else received a similar email? Thank you!

^^ The email from UCLA specified that I should scan a copy of my transcript and send it to them as soon as possible (they even said if I didn’t reply within five days my application could be compromised). They gave me a personalized link in the email for a “message” that also included a place to put attachments.

I had something similar sent to me from UCLA a few weeks ago, they wanted to know why there was a three year gap from between I graduated high school till when I applied! At least we know they’re looking at our applications.

Got the email after inquiring about it with the person that is evaluating my file. Don’t worry if you haven’t gotten anything yet. They said they haven’t sent those emails to all of those with international transcripts.
Get ready though, they give you 5 days (not business days) and ask for an unofficial copy in English. I am having to have a translator certify the copy and stuff. What a big mess!

This is a fairly typical request from UCLA. It seems a lot of students with international records get transcript requests from UCLA. It’s not necessarily good or bad, just that the campus needs to see what the record looks like (especially since you probably had to mangle it to fit the UC application format).

I know, UCLA sent me the email on a Thursday which meant I had until Monday. I emailed the university to send me an electronic version of my transcript but was told I had to pay for an official one that they would mail to my flat.

So I had to pay 12 pounds for it and they still sent it Second Class Post!!! Couldn’t believe it. But thankfully it arrived Monday morning so I ran to the library to scan it!

As far as my stats go I applied to do Physics because I do Physics and Maths here. I thankfully have 12 AP exams under my belt so I’ve done most (if not all) of IGETC or whatever they’d need from a non CCC. I also have the prereqs for my major, as here I’ve only taken classes in either chemistry, physics, or maths. But I figure my chances of getting in now are slim to none after I had to send in the transcript…now they can see how badly I did last year. Here you only have to pass (>= 40%) your first year and it doesn’t go into your “GPA” for your final degree. And I didn’t know I’d be applying for a transfer back then… Oh well.

So I called UCI admissions, and in case you were wondering how us people with international transcripts are going to be evaluated, here is what will go down. First they will try to match classes based solely on their names and grades you got. They will make a decision with just that in hand. That decision will be provisional, then they will pick only what they though it was transferable and will ask you for those courses descriptions to be evaluated.
Confusing huh?
Apparently then they will offer you admissions (or deny you) based solely on courses names and grades. Sooooo unfair!!!

I applied last year, got the same email from UCLA and UCSD as well because I started at an international university before transferring to a CC then finally UCLA. I scanned all my transcripts neatly, added explanations and course descriptions from the syllabi from the international uni, and made sure I explained the trimester system they followed there. It’s a pain, but they give you five days. They’re looking at your application and actually care enough to ask about it. Take it as a good sign, take care of all the things they ask for, write formally in the additional comments box, and make sure you explain everything that needs to be explained and you will be fine. I got accepted to both schools last year.

It could be that you just gave them all the info they need to make a decision. I literally could not fill out the application correctly so it makes sense for them to ask for a transcript.

The admissions people are probably more familiar with certain kinds of foreign universities over others - depending on how many apps they get on average from each.

@iZytchr try to find out the email of the UCI representative at your college and email them. That is what I did and I got the request within hours. Keep in mind though that you will have 5 days (not business days) to send the transcripts to them in English, which means that you might have to get them translated in case the university you attended abroad only gives transcripts in your native language (that is what I had to do)
