I got accepted to Dietrich School of Arts and Sciences, but I was wondering if

a) I could switch majors before next year starts without risking honors or full tuition scholarship
b) I could switch to the engineering school before next year

I want to do a, and b is just out of curiosity. Thanks!

a. is no problem, you don’t need to do anything. The major you listed on your application is only a prospective major and doesn’t have an official status when you attend. It’s sophomore year when you formally declare a major.

b. not sure about, but I’m pretty sure it would carry over from A&S to engineering. You should contact OAFA as soon as possible if you really want to make the switch, as I remember there are additional merit scholarships for engineering that can be stacked on top of full tuition.

Congrats!

My son is a sophomore also with full tuition and he has not yet declared his major, so the first queston should not be an issue.

No idea about #2. Not sure about switching schools.

If you are sure you want to switch to Engineering, you may want to contact admissions about that now. It may still be possible.
If you are not sure, you can still switch to engineering later, but you will probably have fullfill certain freshman requirements (Physics, Math, etc) and then apply to switch. I would contact the Engineering school to find out more details. The freshmen program is on their website:
[Freshman Integrated Curriculum](http://www.engineering.pitt.edu/Freshman/Academic/Freshman_Integrated_Curriculum/)

If you don’t follow the engineering curriculum from the freshman year on, there is a good chance you will not be able to finish in 4 years.

Very true. And scholarships only last 4 years/8 semesters. Just FYI.
