Hey guys I got into UCR (which was the school I wanted to go to) but with the semester ending I realize my decision is going to be revoked. I had some personal issues that came up which caused me to fail two classes, one which Stats (I needed that for my transfer math). First off is there any way you think they wont reverse my descion? Secondly, If they do what are the next steps to get back in? I searched online and couldn't find anything. Also Do they have a late start like maybe I can start in January of 2012 by taking the Stats class over summer or fall of this year? Really stressed out any info would help thanks!

On a side note: Do you think taking my fall classes (if my descion gets reversed) at riverside community college will better my chances of getting into UCR?

You need to start communicating with admissions when you have questions like this. People on College Confidential can only answer questions to an extent, but personal situations should be directly discussed with the university. Though I agree, you will most likely be rescinded.

Lakers03, I think your application will get rescinded. A transferable 3-unit mathematics course is one of the fundamental classes you need to transfer to a UC.

I say: keep your head up and talk to the counselors at UCR and your community college.

And let me offer you some advice via a great Persian poet…

“Dont grieve. Anything you lose comes round in another form.” - Jalal ad-Din Muḥammad Rimi

Work hard, don’t lose your motivation and reapply this September for TAG and this November for general admissions.

Best of luck, and everything will work out eventually.

Everyone here is being too harsh .
First off, if your community college has a summer session try to sign up for the math class you failed .

After that call UCR and tell them why you messed up in math, even if the admissions rep is telling you that its impossible ask them for instructions on how to file an appeal . Now here’s the tricky part, you need to have SOME DOCUMENTABLE REASON as to why you failed stats . If you don’t have this then your appeal will definitely be denied, but if you have something that you can prove happened , which impacted your schoolwork then go ahead and appeal .

Make sure to say in your appeal that your going to take this class during summer . If stats is too hard for you then switch to finite math- it might be called something different at your CC , but its basically the LOWEST UC TRANSFERABLE MATH . As long as you passed Algebra 2 in high school you should be fine .
Keep your head up, although Grimes is on his high horse the fact is admissions at any college have a great amount of flexibility as to who gets rescinded . Math is very bad to fail since its a basic skill class, but if you tell UCR your retaking it this summer and explain why you failed it the first place you might have a shot .

How are we being too harsh? Most UC’s require those admitted to finish their Spring semester with a “C” or better. He not only failed 1 class, but he failed 2. One of them being a math class that is needed. There is no reason that he WOULDN’T be rescinded.

I’m going to have to agree about him being rescinded. Especially since one of the failed classes is the transferable math class, that makes the chances that much higher. Even CSUs require completion of the “Golden Four” by Spring semester (English I, II, Speech, and Math).

You’re Pretty much SOL. Sorry Better luck next year, Firstly they won’t take you and as the previous poster stated, Yeah they’ll rescind your acceptance. Last year when i was getting into UCLA, My acceptance was rescinded because they re-evaluated my Transcript and said i was 58 credits because they discarded one of my courses saying it was “Non transferable”. I asked them if i was honestly going to have to wait an ENTIRE year because of 2 credits even though they already accepted me, and She affirmed my application had been dropped for fall 2010 last year.

If you’ve failed the pre-req class I’m pretty sure they’ll say no because that’s required before you can continue in the fall considering they dropped my application last year even though i MET all the pre-req classes.

Good luck hope things work out.

One more thing, They don’t accept students whether transfer or not during spring quarter.

California has been in a budget crisis for some time now and that hasn’t been around for ages. Only fall quarters are accepted. If you were to try a CSU in the spring you may get in because they did Spring acceptances for spring semester this year.

Thanks for the motivation and kind words. I really appreciate all the help I’m getting. I decided to just go ahead and reapply for 2012. I am going to do tag and also retake classes that I have received a C or lower in. I already have 65 units, so I guess retaking classes to raise my GPA is the best thing to do.

Only retake the courses that you have BELOW a C in, not C AND lower. If you retake a course that you got a C in initially, they’ll count the first C.

I got admitted to UCSB and UCSC last year, but due to the budget cuts in my CC I was not able to get into any transferable math course. Even after petitioning the class, due to errors and drama in the counseling/admissions office at my CC I was not able to finish my IGETC by the end of Spring. That said, yes I did get my admissions revoked because I was not eligible as a transfer.

But that’s my situation. I have friends that went on to their UC schools having missed many of the same classes I did due to the budget cuts. But some of those schools did have borderline acceptances, waiting lists, etc. So they may have gotten in being a borderline applicant.

Don’t stress yourself out though. You will have to report this to your UC though, as I’m sure that they will ask for your transcripts and grades for the previous semester when you admit your SIR. But talk with admissions counselors there–don’t even bother with your CC counselor (if you’re seeing one). They fed me complete BS that cost me semesters worth of fixing. But be honest with your school. Chances are they’ll let you finish the course at your UC before accepting you into full major status.

I have the same situation right now,
I got into UCR too, but i failed my anthropology class this semester.
I already reported to the admission office, but they haven’t say anything yet.
I am so freaked out right now,
My friend is in the situation too, he knew that he can’t pass the accounting class this semester, he sent an email to the admission office and they said he only need to maintain a 2.0 or higher GPA on this semester. So he thinks that if he gets an A it’s fine to get a D since he still has a 2.5 gpa.
I am totally confused now.
but I really hope that we can get through this.
best wishes !!!
