haha its ok...now i see why you made the comment about just sitting there and doing nothing...at first i just kinda sat there and scratched my head, but its clear now

"Hey genius: it's "arguments." "
Oh, it is "arguments". But it's also "hey genius, it's 'arguments'". Learn how to use colons properly please.

"Ya. I'm the moron. I'm also not a "he."" (stopped reading here)
That's good for you. "Ya" is not a word.

That's about as much of a mindless post I'm willing to read. Seems to me the whole post was probably some hypocritical ramble coming from someone who thinks she's all crazy or something because she knows more than me about UC admission and can't take jokes.

Talk to you some other time stupidsktr or whatever your idiotic name is. (let me guess, the next thing that smartass will try to do is bash my name because she's so uncreative?)

hanhou, good for you. I am happy for you that you got in against all odds. I assume you are in Ca? No doubt your hook was your hardships, golf or something, I know plenty in NY that got rejected flat out, no wait lists nothing that were very very well qualified. One of my friends was devastated as she was so bent on that school and her parents divorced and her Mom was planning a move there all around the school,etc...a big mess. Sorry you had to get such heat from this board, there are either alot of really ignorant or really jealous people on this board. Best of luck to you.

thank you! and yeah, i live in california (san diego area)

i hear revelle is the most strict
i guess it's prestigious

im just excited for ucsd. anywhere is better than oregon

wow you are coming from Oregon? any reason why you picked UCSD?

and yeah, im in revelle

You guys are nuts if you think the UC's dont put a lot of weight on the SAT. First off, When i went to an admissions meeting at UCSD, they mentioned that because they recieve sooo many applications, much of the time it is actually a computer that simply reads numbers and spits out decisions. The SAT is the largest factor in the admission provess for UC's because sooo many people have over 4.0's now. The SAT is the easiest way to decide who to admit. Finally, I had a 4.11 weighted gpa (3.9 uw) and was rejected from UCLA.. Why?....SAT(1970)

^yea thats true but ppl with low SATs not-that-great GPAs sometimes can get in too...shows the whole randomness of admissions

your SATs were WAY better than mine...1560

i was reading this study that they did about ppl they admit and stuff, and when you compared the admitted to the rejected, there were hardly any differences...

but i think they factor in a whole bunch of stuff....for example my tragic experiences i know played a HUGE part in my admission, but the thing is, i know i would have just done as well even WITHOUT my tragic experience, and my GPA wasnt the greatest either, or atleast not compared to the other 65,000 applicants who didnt get in

UCs care nothing for SAT scores. I had a 2240, but a 3.5 weighted GPA (5 APs Soph and Junior year). Apprently they couldn't look past my gpa as I was rejected by both UCLA and UCSD.

yeah, and i had a 3.74 (but 3.6 in college terms) ... i think im going to call UCSD and see how many points i got...do they tell you how many points you got if you were admitted?

Why is everyone still overlooking applied major? Some people with crazy stats will get rejected if they apply to an impacted major, while those who apply to a less popular major are more likely to get in.

true true, especially if you are going into engineering...ick haha

did you take a lot of rigorous course?

hahahahah this is SOOO FUNNY cause i went to borrego springs a couple years ago in the spring or fall, i dont remember which. Its inland from san diego, you have to climb mountains and go so far to get to the place. it was SO DAMN HOT!!! borrego is supposed to get to like 180 degrees in the summer. the funny thing is that the ONLY thing in borrego was a golf course, which i guess the OP has realized because he's a golfer, no suprise. i remember telling myself, "If i had to live here, i would either learn to play golf or kill myself."

I believe this person could have possibly gotten accepted at these schools because of his/her hardships, but I don't think they should go. Getting accepted is one thing, passing your courses once you get to college is another story. If you couldn't even score average on the SAT, how do you expect to pass a class full of competative pre-meds at UCLA that's graded on a curve? After seeing your stats, i'm not sure that you should even listen to my recommendation on the other post about going to Irvine. You are really gonna have to step it up to do well. I suppose it's possible since you got accepted, but you should really think about what you are risking before you send in an SIR to these schools.

I second amiradaprincess's comment. If you honestly and truly believe you have it in you to do well at these top notch schools then be my guest...but if you're not sure...don't take the chance because you'll be setting yourself up for one major failure.

I'd agree but are SIRs binding? I know people who sent SIRS to two colleges...

yes they're binding, and if you violate them then your enrollment status to the UC system could be seriously jeapordized

taffy: you went to borrego springs? HAHAHA thats so funny cus most ppl dont even know it exists! whats your connection down there? i most likely know the person you know! haha

amiradaprincess: im assuming your thing about low stats was to me...i work really hard, and the reason my GPA was so low was because i messed up my sophomore year, and i admit that, and thats the only reason why its so low. My other GPAs were really high. Also, ive heard, from numerous ppl, that a high GPA at UCLA may not be as high as it is at UCLA, meaning that it is actually easier to get a hight GPA at UCLA
I also here the students are so much more competive at UCSD. UCLA is mostly laid back, atleast thats what the many mnay students i have takled to have said about it

and about the SIR...erm, i applied for housing at UCSD just to put in my app incase i go there and, erm, i think i accidently put in my SIR... im not sure htought...GOSH this college thing is so annoying
