Got My Letter.....

waitlisted...&%$#

S got in today. 2280 SAT's, Nat'l Merit finalist, 3.6 GPA, witty essay/ goodrefs. Wants to go elsewhere so will hopefully free up a spot!

dude NJ...how did you get rejected!!! that's meessed up.

accepted...1450 SAT (old), 3.8 GPA.

accepted!!! I am very excited...2260, 3.85, president of a lot of stuff, great essats/recs, and great interview. Sorry for the people who didn't make it, but the applicant pool at Haverford is pretty self-selective, so I am sure you will have many great options. Congratulations to everyone who got in!

Location: WI

SAT: 2280
ACT: 35
GPA: 3.8UW, 5 AP Courses
National Merit Finalist
Lots of extracurriculars, president of Student Council, president of Computer Science Club, and probably the most important one being co-founder of my high school's Honor Court which plays right into the Honor Code and gave me ammunition for the supplementary essay.

Interestingly, no information on Financial Aid.
Best of luck to those who haven't heard yet!

rejected, 2270 (1520 m/v) sat, i think my e.c.'s were fine, i probably didnt put enough thought into the essay. if it makes anyone feel better, the only thing i would have used their silly obession with the honor code for would be to cheat easier. take that, pennsylvanian b1tches.

waitlisted -- now what? How long would I have to wait to hear further if I really was intent on going to Haverford, which I'm not sure about ????

Rejected, 2180 SATs, good ECs, etc, didn't think I did a great job on the essay, the topic was a b1tch. You win some, you lose some. Oh well.

to all the people that got rejected, i honestly think that for all of you, it was the essay that made the difference.

my sat was 2140. which is really low compared to some of you guys. but i worked really hard on my essay and i'm pretty sure my rec people wrote fabulous recs.

agree with becchalk tho. win some lose some. it'll balance out.

I found the topic really hard to write about. I did all my other essays and there it was just staring at me. How will the Haverford Honor Code affect your life? ... I don't know, I won't ever cheat anymore?

My essay ended up being trite and cliched, so I wasn't too surprised. But congrats to all of you who got in!!!!

2 thoughts...

1) The honor code essay is like a thank you letter. For the most part, you are not going to get or lose a job, professional/grad school acceptance based on it. An exceptionally well crafted one or a plain aweful one (and one not written at all) may make people take notice, but for the majority, it doesn't really matter. The honor code essay is more for you... to force you to think about issues related... and to see if that's something that might appeal to you for 4 years of your life.

2) For those waitlisted or rejected, or accepted to HC but rejected elsewhere, I want to say something banal and something you've already heard from your parents. Admission to a top college is a f\/cking crap shoot and I'd guestimate that it's 70% merit (however that's defined) and 30% luck. Get angry at an imperfect system. How you can channel your disappointment/ frustration to your benefit is to say that... these colleges made a huge mistake (and they may have), that you are (TRULY) equivalent to those accepted... and you'll wind up going to a "less selective" school, but work hard and... you're going to freakin stand out and graduate the top of your class and show HC, or Carleton, Amherst... wrong.

I guarantee that 10 years from now, you're going to look back on this and not remember your disappointment. You will realize that going to a "good" school instead of a "great" school is actually a rare luxury in life. In med school and residency, I'd see sickness, death... and sometimes profound loneliness on a regular basis. I almost lost my brother in 9/11 as he lived bedside the Towers in Battery Park City. 1500 Americans just died last year because of a storm and poor planning... where does going to your safety school fit in with these?

waitlisted in nj. merudh got in over me, that arse! but congrats to him nonetheless.

lol I love you too man

D2 waitlisted

S accepted yesterday - California

the honor code essay. there was a pamphlet that came with it for me. i used it to answer the question because it was a synopsis of what other haverfordians thought about it. it was a great help because it helped me understand more about how the honor code was viewed and how it could affect my life. but it still took a long time for me to write it.

Haverford is my FOURTH waitlist
(that has to be some kind of record!)

Waitlisted. ugh. At least if I go to Bryn Mawr, I can take classes at Haverford!

My stats were 2170 (I think someone asked a few posts earlier).

And I completely forgot about the Haverford supplement and didn't turn it in until two weeks later. I think with the high influx of mail, they didn't realize how late mine was.

And because I realized I missed the deadline, I totally BSed my essay.

Goes to show the honor code essay really DOES NOT matter.
