Got My Loa

My son got his LOA from USAFA today. So far he has LOA from USMA and USAFA and an academic or scholastic qualification from USNA. We hope all who are reading this get in and serve our amazing country. Good luck all! I am not sure which one he wants, we will see. Until then, our best wishes to each 2010 er wanting in.

^ as in, the actual paper LOA in the mail?!!

oh my god...I'm not going to be able to sleep this weekend......

I understand andy!

Congrats, that's very exciting to have several good choices!

Wow - we go away for a couple of days and this place starts buzzing. Congrats to all of you and everyone else just hang in there - the good news will be coming soon.

When we got back from The Citadel last night DS ran to the mailbox and was pretty dissapointed to not see an envelope from AFA. So he decided to check his status on the website and it had changed to "Letter of Assurance". I guess that's official enough.

Thanks for the reminder Nothemomma. I checked my USAFA website and the status has changed to "Appointment Offered." I haven't seen the hard copy yet, but hopefully it is in the mail. Any other presidential nomination candidates got offered an appointment? Congrats to everybody who got an LOA, and best of luck to those of you who are still waiting.
You've already been offered an Appointment? That's awesome. I'm assuming you got an LOA and already know about a presidential nomination from what you said. Congratulations.

Actually I hadn't seen anything regarding an LOA; I didn't even know if I was going to be considered this early because I'm not PPQ...but since I do have a Presidential nomination I don't have to wait for my MOC's review board results to come out, and I guess USAFA issued me appointment because I'm qualified in all other areas (and have a nomination).

LOA arrived in the mail today! I guess now it's the waiting game for a nomination. Small steps.

MY status changed on the wesbite too to "LOA," I'm off to my Interview before one of my Senator's nomination committee, I'll give a full report when it's finished. --- Congrats Fiterace87

(I also finally have THE letter from the post office)

Has it ever happened that a student recieved and LOA, then a nomination, and finally an offer of appointment, only to have this offer revoked later for some reason?

Appointments have been revoked for (1) poor grades second semester of senior year or (2) some illegal or immoral action (getting arrested or something equally bad) or (3) any number of equally undesirable things. So I guess a person could say that you're never really safe until you actually inprocess...so as the cliche goes--keep making those right decisions!

Yeah thats what I figured. I'm assuming this isn't common at all though.

also a change in medical condition could also inhibit your entrance to the USAFA , I assume that's what fiterace 87meant when he said "undesirable things." I have heard some horror stories but If they give you an appointment-- they want you! P.S. had a pretty grueling interview today with one Senator but I was pretty confident by the end, just keep your head.

Right--that's probably the kicker, I think the most common reason for an appointment withdrawal is a change in medical history (and this applies to any academy). I understand that some Swabs at the Coast Guard Academy this year were released their first day because they failed their physical (color-blindness) which was not reported by DoDMERB. The academies don't want to waste a lot of time and money building an officer only to find out that the officer candidate will not pass the commissioning physical in a few years.

But what Benjo says is true--if the academies offer an appointment, they want you--I've even heard stories of people getting injured on or a few days before I-Day, getting dismissed on I-Day, then being guaranteed an offer of appointment next year as long as the injury healed to full capacity. The academy will support a cadet as long as the cadet is trying and wants to be there.

I'm sure your interview was okay. Some interviewers want to grill a candidate simply to see how they handle stress. They know that if a candidate cannot handle the stress of an interview, then they may not be able to handle the stress of the first summer at the academy.

You are correct about the color-blindness dq's at CGA. I think there were 7 or so. Also you can be booted if you don't pass the CFA they give you early in BCT/swab/beast/whatever summer. Injuries just before are usually dq'ing but I have heard of some being passed through. Good luck.

well luckily no more sports for me, im just gonna work out and "bubble wrap" myself...!

Congrats Benjo! Hey I noticed that you also visit the military.com AFA forums, are there any other good AFA application related message boards you know of?

Got my LOA in the mail today.

I'm in heaven...my peace of mind is back!

For all you waiting for those letters...hold in there...I know how hard it is seeing others getting them.

Definetly cutting the sports and just sticking to my lifting routine. No way I DQ myself.

PatriotCFM, a USAFA appointee (and a friend of my son's) from a high school in our district (hs is located on an Air Force base) had his appointment revoked for pouring a gallon of milk over cars in the hs parking lot when it was 30 below. Suspension=revokation. Just a "prank" with far-reaching repercussions. Keep making good decisions!
