If you are from suburbia and expect suburbia in the surrounding neighborhoods of Rose Hill, you will be sadly disappointed. The Bronx is a city onto itself. There are million dollar mansions in certain neighborhoods and slums in others. The neighborhoods around Rose Hill can be best described as ethnic lower-middle class. The neighborhoods have a certain "flavor" to them, and that flavor is not tuna on toast.

If you ever travelled to the Caribbean and felt compelled to stay within the tourist areas, the neighborhoods around Rose Hill might not be to your liking. If on the other hand, when in the Caribbean, you tended to explore the non-tourist areas, you will have no problem with the surrounding neighborhoods.

To each his own. I love the Bronx, it is a true melting pot of American society.
