I just finished my junior year of high school with a 3.6 weighted GPA and wanted to know what my chances were of getting accepted into UF, UCF, FIU, USF, or FSU? My brother was recently accepted who was accepted to all of these colleges said that he doesnt think i can get accepted because of that GPA and how the GPAs are recalculated almost in february, which is bot in time for the application deadlines of most of these colleges. Any advice?
Sorry for the mistake halfway throughout the post.
If your school doesn’t have a Naviance site, then start with the universities’ own websites. They almost certainly post class profiles for the admitted students’ data sets. I don’t know enough about those schools to comment knowledgeably, but I’d be surprised if your GPA would disqualify you from any of them other than possibly UF. What were your SAT/GPA scores?
probably get into all except UF but you’d still have a chance
I have just taken the SAT score once and i got a score of 1500.

your gpa is fine for uf as long as you have a high test score and good extracurriculars.
What is your rank? UF is big into top 10%. Also, if you are in the top 10% with a 1500 SAT then you’ll be auto-admitted at UCF. If you are not in the top 10%, I think that UF is probably not likely unless you boosted your SAT by 500-600 points. For all of your schools, consider applying for summer entry – it really boosts your chances. Also, some schools will conditionally accept on the condition of earning a certain number of credits at the local community college (FIU is one).
All in all, I think that your GPA doesn’t disqualify you from any but for UF. I’d say, as you stand, FIU seems like the only very likely (and even then, I am assuming you’re in the top 25% of your class). USF also seems pretty likely. A stronger SAT score (consider retaking or ACT) will certainly help at the others.
Also, just FYI, my brother who is a PhD student at Harvard now, was a “late bloomer” and had a 2110 SAT and a 3.7 GPA which placed him in the 21st percentile of his high school class. He was rejected at UF, but accepted at higher ranked schools with “holistic admissions” who appreciated his upward trend and his ECs and essays.
would recommend re taking the SAT, and demonstrating as much interest as possible (try to schedule interviews or tours if you can). admission will be largely contingent upon the strength of your essays, recs and extra curriculars.
As for me, your gpa is pretty adequate but it depends on your major too. But for schools like berkeley especially for freshman, your extracurricular and personal statement play a huge role in your admission. Sat scores play a role too. So dont worry, not only gpa decides your admission.
Good luck!
I thought colleges didnt take into consideration your major when applying.???
