Okay so im from california and I stumbled across Oregon and I really am liking the school. I had a few questions though...the automatic admissions says you have to have a 3.4 or better. Is that weighted or unweighted? Does that include 9th grade? Do you know if oregon only looks at the academic classes (a-g classes) like the UC's do? Cause at the moment I am 3.44 weighted for 10th and 11th grade only and only for my academic classes. Buuttt if you do weight 9th through 11th im 3.47 only academic classes and if all this is unweighted i'm 3.12

Oregon looks at whatever is on your transcript. They include everything, meaning all classes (academic, elective, P.E… etc) and all grades (9-12). Make sure your high school puts your weighted GPA on the transcript. I’m assuming you are a senior applying this year. Next year the GPA required for guaranteed admission will go up to a 3.5.

ohhh okay phew! thanks that helped a lot. my weighted GPA for 9th through 12th is 3.64! Hooray! haha and yes im a senior applying for this year. Do you go to university of oregon?

I applied for oregon already this year. I have a 3.17 unweighted, but my weighted was above 3.4 so I got automatic admit. They look at weighted and unweighted. They do not do the annoying UC thing (I’m californian too…) Good Luck!

do you think your going to go to Oregon?

@pinkvgirl: Tulare and reachyourgoals are right. D emailed them about the GPA and they replied saying they take whatever your school puts on the official transcript, 9th thru 11th, all courses that your school uses to calculate GPA. I guess they would use weighted (if your school does weighted GPA). They did say they don’t recalculate GPA and trust what your school says is your GPA. So it is not the complicated UC calculation with cap etc. But then again, they are comparing apples to oranges (as each school does GPA different - in terms of weights)

If you plan to apply, do so early as it is rolling and they usually give their decision with 2-4 weeks. Once you apply they mail a UO ID and PAC that you can use to check status of application online in terms of reqd. materials and decision.

Good luck!

One of the reasons they increased the GPA needed for guaranteed admission from a 3.25 to a 3.4 this year (and 3.5 next year) is so they have more room for fully evaluating applications and accounting for the apples to oranges differences rr43 points out. When it was a 3.25 over 70% of students were automatically admitted, leaving them few slots left to consider other factors (like raising GPA trend, rigor of curriculum, etc). This year they expect around 55% of students to come in via the guaranteed admit, which means they can evaluate far more students when they fill up the remaining 45% of the slots. I think the system is more fair now and will give them a more diverse, interesting freshman class.
