GPA for Wharton

What would you say would be a good gpa to have a good shot at wharton. Can you give a weighted range and an unweighted one. Also, do they automatically dismiss your app if you have one C or grade that is lower than all others? <<<for my friend lol

Wharton doesn’t release such statistics. Just tell your friend to do his best.

^^so take a guess lol

They want to see success. Straight A’s or close. Top ranking. There’s no magic formula, as plenty of vals get shut down by the committee.

Personally, I think courseload matters more than GPA alone, but I think even with the toughest courseload, don’t dip below a 3.7 if your school is extremely competitive. If your school is easier or if you’re taking an easier courseload than you could be, adjust that number to something higher.

Although, to be honest, it’s all part of context. Giving you a GPA range won’t mean much because that range differs in meaning from school to school. However, you can be certain that most of the students here were in the top 10% of their class, and that’s taking SAS, Wharton, Eng, and Nursing students into account.

For Wharton, that number is probably a lot more strict. Once you fall outside of that range, your chances are effectively near-zero. Plenty of Wharton students here were easily near or at the top of the class in high school, with mostly A’s. I am sure a C wouldn’t hurt you, but you have to realize that Wharton is a lot tougher than anything you’ll do in high school. They’re not going to admit someone who can’t dominate high school, because they’d likely flounder when it comes to harder stuff.

Try checking out past admission threads to get a flavor for things. All sorts of people on CC post their academic stats and what schools they get into/get rejected from.

I was 3.9ish UW, 4.19 W. Good, competitive, private school.

i don’t think just shooting for a high GPA will get your friend in… I’m val of my class, 3.95 UW, 4.3 W, rigorous courseload and was waitlisted. just goes to show you that GPA & rank aren’t everything.

^^is it better to go to a not so great private and be val? or go to competitive good public with better courses and be top 10%???
