GPA Lowered Significantly-Freaking Out

This is about my 3679965th thread here, I’m so sorry, lol. I’ve run into a bit of an issue.

I thought I had my college lists finalized and taken care of, until I completed the A-G portion of my cal state application today and to my horror found out that my A-G GPA (the only gpa csu schools will look at according to my counselor) is a 2.9. My high school transcript states that my GPA is a 3.33, and I was never informed that my ‘actual’ gpa is so much lower since my highest grades were in non-core classes. This is terrifying for me because I was relying on the fact that most of the schools I’m applying to have average gpa’s of 3.0-3.33. My SAT score without studying/prep was an 1170, and I just retook it last Saturday after having studied on my own and prepped with a tutor for 3 weeks, so I am hoping/expecting at least a 1200. How much have my chances shifted for the schools I’m applying to??
Sonoma State
SF State
UNR
CSU Long Beach (pretty sure I’m gonna have to end up taking this one off)
I originally had University of Oregon on my list, but didn’t feel like wasting my time with the essays if I know my GPA is too low.

Thanks in advance, any other suggestions would be appreciated.

At this point, it is what it is. Check with your guidance counselor to ensure that there’s no error. Then broaden your list of schools a bit to accommodate the new GPA.

Don’t consider those essays a waste of time if you really want Oregon, consider them a roll of the dice.

You can easily calculate your correct CSU/UC capped weighted GPA using this calculator: https://rogerhub.com/gpa-calculator-uc/

There are a number of non-impacted CSU’s that would gladly accept you with a minimum Eligibility index (depending upon major). I think UNR, Sonoma State, SFSU can still be on your list. I agree that CSULB may not be worth an application but still it does not hurt to have a Reach or 2.

You can add Stanislaus, East Bay, Bakersfield, Dominguez Hills, Channel Islands which are non-impacted.

Bumping up your SAT score, bumps up your Eligibility index so that will help you.

EI= (CSU GPA x800) + (SAT Math + ERBW)

Here is an impacted major/campus matrix, so I would try to target schools where your intended major would not be impacted for the best chances.

you won’t qualify for the full WUE program at UNR but, they will let you in - can you afford OOS tuition? Same deal for . UofO - if they let you in… you are going to pay…

Sonoma and SF are good targets - though you could be on the bubble with SSU - a few more SAT points would really help. , I’d add Sac, EB, and depending on what you want to study, Monterrey and Humboldt.

Good luck

Really depends on which CSU you are applying to and which major. If you are around the LA area, CSU LA and CSU Northridge are worth a shot. Don’t get discouraged! You never know until you apply.

Back when I was in high school, I got rejected from Berkeley with a 3.8 GPA, but accepted to UCSB, UCR, CSU Long Beach, SF State, etc.

But I also applied to CSU Northridge as a transfer with a 2.6 and I also got accepted.
