GPA Needed for Nursing

Hello Banker1, you are in SDSU nursing program right? In order to stay in the program, what GPA is needed? I have a friend whose daughter was in Arizona State University Direct Entry Nursing program, she didn’t keep a 3.5 GPA the second half of her freshman year so she was kicked out of their direct entry program. I’m wondering what GPA SDSU requires.?

@BlackStallion - I may be able to answer your question! I remember asking Jason, the nursing advisor, a similar question during the spring schedule info session. If I recall correctly, there is no minimum GPA requirement except for academic probation, so that just means you only have to be above 2.5. I think it might be different for transfers though - I have heard that they need to maintain a 3.2 GPA until they graduate, but of course, this is just what I have heard.

Of course, there are other things that may get you kicked out: if you fail a core science (Bio 211, Chem, Bio 212, etc.) or nursing class (I’m not sure if this applies to upper division nursing classes) on the second attempt of taking the class or cheating. Note that when I say fail, I mean a nursing fail which is C+ and below. For science classes (and I am quite sure nursing classes too), you need at least a B- and above.

thank you regularperson. Are you applying tot he nursing program at SDSU this Fall? I tried to make an appt with Jason last Winter, but he was booked! I’m taking my D to the campus in July.

@BlackStallion - I am entering my sophomore year for nursing at SDSU. Unfortunately, he has been very busy this past year. :frowning: I hope you enjoy your visit to SDSU!
