GPA question

Is the GPA listed on the Penn State admission website unweighted or weighted?

It says the middle 50% is 3.6-4.0.
It may be unweighted but its hard to imagine that the top 25% from penn state had straight A’s from freshman year to junior year but I really dont know.

I believe the GPA is the weighted GPA since that is what Penn State considers.

The freshman statistics page says that it’s “on a 4.0 scale” though so really they’re not very clear about it. I do agree that a 75th percentile of 3.97 UW would be a bit high. http://admissions.psu.edu/apply/statistics/

I always read the GPA as unweighted - since unweighted is a 4.0 scale.

It is also confusing to look at weighting since every HS weights differently.

@valpak00per I’m not sure what you are reading that says middle 50 is 3.6 - 4.0 ? I am seeing middle 50 as 3.55 -3.97 for University Park. That tells me that they top 25% are a 3.97 - 4.0.

@lucyvanpelt It was updated since I last checked. Any anyway, what different does 0.05 and 0.03 make?

Yeah even, I think its weighted gap as well. Because 3.97 unweighted gpa is pretty high and almost ivy level like.

why don’t you call and ask admissions?

I still think it is unweighted …, it clearly says 4.0 scale. If it was weighted, that would be “B’s” and below.
