I was wondering, are the GPA stats for transfers usually lower than those of incoming freshman? Because for example schools like Swarthmore accept incoming freshman with GPAs of 3.9ish, but the average GPA of the Swarthmore student is only 3.4. So obviously GPAs tend to lower in college so their expectations must lower as well?

Thats because classes aren't easy like high school in college. Generally in college students are taking much more difficult classes and it is much harder to get straight A's. I wouldn't quite say expectations are lowered, I would put it more along the lines of a good gpa in college is different from a good gpa in high school.
