I am taking all Honors and AP courses this year (full load) and rec'd all A's my first semester (the first time in high school). I asked my guidance counselor if I should recalculate my GPA (it's like 89.7) before sending to colleges and she said no, they only calculate GPA on the first 3 years. So why in the world am I doing what I'm doing????

Because colleges also receive your first semester senior year grades, you do have to send them as soon as they’re available.

I’m just bummed that I’m getting all A’s for the first time in high school and it’s not bumping up my GPA. I hope the schools look at that.

Schools absolutely consider midyear grades. An upward trend will impress them.

Very important particularly for schools you are applying to regular decision.

Thanks all!

Your grades matter now for two things:
-Regular Decision schools who want to see an upward trend in grades before admitting you.
-End-of-year GPA (ego boost with class awards, having a respectable naviance dot, 1st year college resume, etc.).
