Hi so im a freshman at a university with a 2.9 gpa after the first semester. I know that it is bad however the university is allowing me to retake a course I received a 69 in for a new grade. All my other grades were B or better so my gpa will probably go up much higher after my second semester. Im looking to transfer out for the Fall of 2015 however I noticed allot of the application deadlines are March 1st well before the May 1st date in which my second semester grades are released. So im confused to how the colleges look at your grades if they dont have all of them in yet. Are they going to be looking at just my first semester grades or will they make a decision after they get my second semester transcript?
Most school will ask you to send the grades twice. You would send in the grades that you have (i.e. first semester) by March 1st, and then follow by the second semester’s grade when available.
Since you will be repeating a course in second semester, you should inform it to the school that you want to transfer.
Many colleges have a March 1st deadline because they aren’t anticipating many fall sophomore transfers. It’s sort of a way to get sophomores to transfer second semester.
When transferring, most colleges want to see at least 30 credit hours completed. If you don’t have any AP/IB credit to add, then it’s likely that you don’t qualify for transfer admission based on their deadlines. You would have to check with specific colleges you are interested in transferring to for exact numbers on required credit hours.
From your situation, it looks like you may have to transfer spring of your sophomore year.
