GPA

I could ask this on the other reg college forum but I try not to venture on there lol . I know the schools will go by my D’s junior year GPA at application time, since that’s all they’ll have, but I’m wondering what happens later as you acquire your senior year grades and they affect your GPA (hopefully in a good way). Do the colleges update the GPA later? What if your GPA were to get a lot better and affect your scholarship money etc? Not sure how that plays out…

Your child’s guidance counselor is supposed to send in a Mid-Year Grade report after the first semester of senior year (this is around January at most high schools). An upward trend can be beneficial. Fall of senior year does count in admissions decisions, at least at schools that are not rolling admissions.

The answer is … it depends on the school.

In my experience, a private school is MUCH more flexible w/ $$ than a public … if GPA/ACT/SAT increases after the initial scholarship/fa offer is made, I wouldn’t hesitate to bring it up and see if there is more money available.

ok i kinda figured D’s high school would have to send updated info in case you tank your senior year lol. Most of the schools D will apply to are indeed private, so will remember that @KaMaMom about asking for more money if her grades improve a lot.

Many schools close their merit scholarship applications/considerations in November - early January. If possible, it’s best to get that upward swing happening in junior year.

As mentioned above some colleges ask for mid year grade. But check with your HS about their reporting policy. For my son who is a senior this year (music but not MT) he has to request the reports much like he did the initial grade report. Just after a certain date when thay are ready.

Some guidance counsellors will send first quarter grade reports out to schools if it is beneficial to the student. That will be up to your school. Some colleges will consider them, others will not.
